And yes I read the article.. There is nothing in there that is new.. In fact it is a rehash of a similar article from a year ago in the Star.... I was an athlete through high school and collage, I know from visual experience some of US whites are much larger than African men. Orientals and Mexicans are definitely needing that lengthening cream thats being advertised.

Tourist destinations become a safe environment within which female sex tourists can enact control over a masculinity which is imagined stereotypically as aggressive and violent.

Even Western women who live up to Western ideals of beauty participate in sex tourism because they can use their greater economic power and/or racialised identities to exercise control over the relationships into which they enter with Jamaican men. One Jamaican in his 20’s who sold tour boat rides to tourists and also approached tourist women for ‘friendships’ told me of one relationship he had with an older, attractive white American divorcee in her 40’s: "Well, she tell me straight up front she start that she have three kids and she don’t want to get involved. We could do this, we could do that. She don’t want no personal relationship. One day you don’t hear from me, things happen, you must take it just like that because it’s not a long term relationship, ya know."

Such control means these women can limit the risk of being rejected or humiliated. As a woman remarked about the end of one such relationship "I got more out of him than he got out of me." They can also transgress sexual, gendered, racialised and age boundaries. Where at home they would be stigmatised for having legitimate or casual relations with Black men, younger men, ‘womanisers’ or for having many sexual partners, in holiday resorts such as Negril they are permitted to ‘consume’ the Black male, the younger boy, the playboy or as many men as they desire while maintaining their honour and reputation back home. Their sense of racialised superiority in Caribbean countries, together with their economic power also puts them on a level with white men and for once they can experience feeling more powerful than a man.

At a theoretical level, the most interesting feature of sex tourism is how locals involvement rests on using their ‘Blackness’ as part of the commodity that they are selling. For along with the actual services, whether it be acting as a guide, fruit seller, artist, or gigolo/prostitute, they are selling part of their personal self.

So long as it remains acceptable to use 'difference' as the Caribbean's unique selling point, the tourist industry will continue to provide a framework which permits (even encourages) sex tourism. This in turn serves to entrench not only inequalities between the West and developing countries, but also the very forms of racism and sexism which structure patterns of exclusion and exploitation.

Whether they are being paid or not, the charm is on. Jamaican men shine when it comes to making a woman feel like a woman because it’s in them naturally to do so. As a foreign woman, it’s more evident to me than it might be to a Yardie woman. Perhaps because of being used to their degree of attention, growing up with it makes its normal or expected. In that case, she would look for more in a man, which is understandable. Whereas it is new to most of us (foreign women). I live in a country where most of the men I meet and know are spoiled and selfish. Think that pleasing a woman or learning how to is work so they would rather find a woman who would put up with their “take me as I am” attitude instead of becoming a better mate.

So yes, “some” Jamaican men may seize the opportunity to capitalize on this characteristic…because they know whether short term or long term, both are benefiting from it.

Re: the massage thing. I am not aware in Toronto of massage parlours that cater for sex and men approaching guys on the street and offering to send 2 girls to their hotel room to give massage but then I don't stay in hotels when I am here so I am probably shielded from that part of life. Sorry, I ain't seeing it. Perhaps what you perceive as charm I perceive as leading a woman on in order to get her to drop baggy as quickly as possible. I find nothing charming about:

No Tropicana, not the type of charm I’m referring to. I personally don’t consider it charming when any man tries to get a woman’s attention my sounding like a serpent or lizard. The charm I recognize is genuine, from the heart, not used to get into a woman’s panties and/or purse.

I know plenty of Jamaican men (even in the tourist area) who exhibit this characteristic without the mack because it’s natural.

Having been to both Jamaica and Thailand, I have seen obvious prostitution in both. It's part of "normal" society as demonstated by all the previous posts.

I don't judge anyone. But I do feel uncomfortable when I see two people together when there may be an element of exploitation. Also when I see "couples" together who are the physical opposites of one another. eg Giant heffalump white women with small young hansome black man, ancient relic white man with stunning Thai child like beauty, sweaty drunk obese white man with sassy black stunner.

True it goes on everwhere, but some places it just so in your face. I just hate the thought of people being exploited. No one deserves that.

Last year at Jakes, we were in the parking lot - late - around 11:00pm and a black sedan (don't know how he got it in there with all the flooding) pulled in. The driver got out along with 2 girls who were dressed "UP".
they stood around for just a minute when two white older guys came walking out together, and went over to them. The 5 of them talked together for a few minutes, and the driver got in the car and left alone as the girls walked back into jakes with the men.

My husband just got back from bangkok, and he said the European men were pigs. he was shocked at the sights of the "dirty old guys" with the young hookers. He said that's mostly what he saw - old Germans and Brits, with pretty young girls...
