could that be it?! Yes, the oysters I got were large like the palm of my hand. I knew something was wrong! Now that I think about it, yes the ones at home were small.

Barosa, indeed I have not a clue which fishing village. I`m reading your opinions.
Old Harbour Bay on the beach looks pretty congested last time I passed through. Fish of all sizes and varieties displayed in the ramshacle wooden stalls.

A/G, After looking at dose oysters and wondering if they were the ones you spoke of, it occured to me that cooked oysters was a good possibility to try. BTW, I have never had cooked or baked oysters (I may be missing something). I went looking for a recipe; I found this one, but I am sure there are others. Check link:

Oysters

Oysters have been cultivated for at least 2,000 years and have long been a favorite of Americans. According to John Mariani, author of "The Dictionary of American Food and Drink," by the eighteenth century the urban poor were sustained by little more than bread and oysters.

Oysters Rockefeller, one of New Orlean's most famous dishes, was created in 1899 by Jules Alciatore, son of the founder of Antoine's Restaurant. Named after John D. Rockefeller, the tycoon, it's a dish of baked oysters on the half shell topped with a rich (like Rockefeller) sauce and served on a bed of rock salt.

More than twenty years later, according to author and food historian John Egerton, a Frenchman named Arnaud Cazeneuve started Arnaud's Restaurant in the French Quarter of New Orleans and created Oysters Bienville. It consists of baked oysters on the half shell topped with a sherry-flavored bechamel sauce mixed with sauteed chopped shrimp, shallots, and garlic. The dish was named for Jean-Baptiste Le Moyne, sieur de Bienville, the second colonial governor of Louisiana .

Opening oysters takes a little experience. If you don't have an oyster knife, use one with a strong stainless steel blade. Knives not made specifically for the job may break, and metals other than stainless steel might leave the taste of metal on the oyster. Wear a heavy glove to protect your hand from cuts. After scrubbing under cold running water, hold the oyster firmly with one hand, rounded side down so less liquid is lost when opened. Insert the blade of the knife between the shells, near the hinge. Twist the blade to open the shells, then cut the muscle joining the shells together. Slip the blade underneath the oyster to detach it from the shell. Remove any pieces of shell stuck on the oyster.

Steaming them for a few seconds or heating them in a medium oven for about 30 seconds might make them a little easier to open (the heat softens the adductor muscle). Never soak oysters in water, because they can die if they open and their liquid drains out.

Oysters are often served raw or deep-fried in the South and are a common addition to soups, casseroles, and dressings. The following recipe is typical of many Southern fried oyster recipes.

I remember standing on the hill at Hillcrest, Browns Town and looking out over the green fields to the blue Caribbean Sea which was 8 miles away. I can still see the scene in my mind's eye!! [img]/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif[/img]

Talking `bout Eating and Mango skin. Black mango skin was one we used to nyam as bway.
Brown`s Town the cross roads of commerce in hinterland rural Jamaica.

A long time ago they used to have vendors on Orange Street downtown Kingston (close GPO building) selling oysters. You buy it and slurp it out of the shell right there.

So you all eating exotic. Have you ever eaten the heart of the Mounting Cabbage sword? That is exotic.

The Mountain Cabbage is the tallest palm in Jamaica. Sadly, a tree have to be fall for the the sword to be obtained.

Incidentally, the bark of the Mountain Cabbage makes the most beautiful wooden flooring for a house. Inside the bark is a network of almost loose fibers. When the fibers are hewn down to the bark, the ends of the fibers that are attached to the bark board creates a pitseled appearance. When this board is dried, polished and shined it is a natural artistic wonder. As they say, 'dont judge a house from the outside.'

Who ever eat Badoo or drink barnabis soup?

Who never eat roasted or boiled jackfruit seed.
