Rev Al Sharpton said this a.m. on FoxNews that what needs to be established is what course of action, what policy the police should have in dealing with these situatioins, at what age should they handcuff kids..
that this handcuffing is setting a precedent for how other kids who may not have the same issues/problems as this girl will also be treated.

Here in STL at one of the Black charter schools, the principle took a taser (sp?) to a 5 yr old. This was a few months ago.

the school and police authorities can taser and handcuff pickney - but parents dont try any of this at home...u will be investigated for child abuse

And you're right, Mango. Let a parent taser their kid and all hell will break loose.

I think the kid was taken to the principle's office for bringing nail clippers or something considered 'a weapon' to school. He got upset and they said he couldn't be controlled.

I am going to go back and read all the posts before i comment one way or the other. I am also going to go back over the news reports and try to get a better understanding. Just posted this to comment on a clip on this evening's news on a radio station in Philly:

A. The school had instructions on their records by the child's mother that no one should "touch" her child.

B. When the school contacted her to have her come to the school to calm her daughter down, her response was that she could not leave work within the hour. That's when the police were called.

As I said i am cot commenting one way or another about what went down until I gather some more info, even though it's very disturbing to see a 5 year old in handcuffs. Later...
