but the reality is how many parents do? How many parents, especially black parents really put their childs' education (formal and otherwise) as a priority and remain actively involved.

Also it is not easy to just 'drop in' at school. At many schools parents are not permitted into the classroom unless it is parent/teacher night or special occasion (another reason why we made the choice to send our kids to private school )

Given this child has a history with the school the mother and father (how come he has yet to be mentioned) should have requested the chance to observe without the daughter knowing to see for herself.

and yes I agree from what I saw, the child definitely looked as if she was on an 'albueterol' high. btdt changed the med.

half of the time we couldn't see what was happening in the classroom therefore we do not know what was takin place. tey could have me pulling on her shaking her we do not know..er just keep on hearin stop it.

also when they say no tocuhin we are not touching you of course they were touching her and why the teacher have to repeatedly say do not touch me ???

no matter what the police handle the situation very bad. they are trained office 2 with more experience on the job and they should have been able to console her without putting her in handcuff and in a police cruiser in the back seat. that right there is police brutality... DAMN SHE IS ONLY 5 YO.

See this is something that I feel strongly about. I have worked in a Day Care Center (office) before. And I have seen some baaaaaaad pickney come tru dem doors. But never were cops called (well only once when de bwoy seh him swalla sopm and him nevva swalla nuttn). Mi have couple question:

1. Why u coonu hol aan pan de pickney till dem madda come? I have seen a teacher, hold on to a child, and READ A STORY while him hand dem held together by fi ar own.

2. Did de chile commit a crime. Ooh! if a did my pickney dem put ina cuffs. It doesn't matter what the child did in the classroom. If she was not placed in cuffs then, she should not have been placed in cuff in the office.

3. An if de chile slap you - slap ar back. from what mi understand teachers no get paid all that well fi the amount of work that goes into it so would have to differ in that them in it for the money. maybe for the other benefits but not the $$

because some pickney strong. my 3 yr old recently had to go to the emergency room and 4 big nurses could not hold ar down fi tek injection. When a pickney no want something, dem find incredible strength.

I do not think this is a Black/White issue in the least. Sometimes our prejudices cloud our ability to reason. If this child was another race, would we be having this discussion? Now think about it, who is prejudice? The offender or the seasoned offended?

Sarry Dahjah ..I am not agree that this 5 yr old should be handcuffed but Mi neva did a look at this issue wid a pair of black and white glasses.

Look lowe di slavery talk to the people that have actually lived through and experience real slavery.

Now back to this little girl. Again I am not sure why the handcuffs were used but I watched the clip and they tried to calm this little girl down (Sad at this age she has so much anger :eeks: Yikes!! )... and she was not receptive to demands to calm down. So dem handcuff har ( dat could be seen as unnecessary force and it is unfortunate)

But what unu naah address seka di racism argument is that the little girl was NOT jailed.. After she calmed the heck down they did talk to her calmly about her behavior and the little girl in her own way expressed remorse and appeared to have learned a few things about her bad behavior. Mi nat “righting” dem bout di handcuff ..but calling dung slavery and racisms in this situation is such a far stretch [img]/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif[/img]

Now I say that mother of that child need to have a real heart to heart talk with that little girl or she may end up in her later years actually in jail for something far more sinister

Fully agreed!

I have seen where parents have flagged down police cars or have walked up to police officers to demand (in jest of course, but to the child a shocking experience) just to scare unruly children.

This child needed attention by someone professional, because it is not common for a 5 yr old to behave in that manner - even when provoked. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif[/img]

Children are meant to be respectful to adults, and this child, whether it was caused by medications, the foods or drinks she had (which could have been loaded with sugar) or her home situation, was behaving in a shocking manner.

I think you are correct Wendy, she has a dire future if her issues are not looked after immediately by professionals who make it the norm to care for her wellbeing. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif[/img]
