Yeah right! too calm for my liking and quite honestly surgery requires one to be able to think quickly and act reflexivly if necessary to save a patient's life.

Dr. Dudd you are wrong on the first part of your statement that is broad generalization.
As to the second part of your statement, ganja has been shown to be effective in alleviating the symptoms of nausea and vomiting in patients recieving chemotherapy and as well to be helpful in alleviating visual dullness in patients with glaucoma, that my be due in part to the fact that it dilates the pupils. Apart from that, that does not diminish it's hallucinogenic qualities and therefore should not be allowed for widespread public use. Neither should alcohol as far as I am concerned, but then one drink cannot be compared to one spliff in terms of potency, and action.

I stand with you on the coffee issue but the effect is desireable to brings about sobriety, ganja tea on the other hand might send you straight into euphoria, which is safer?/

In any event, the fact that there are effective medications on the market for nausea and reactive airway disease that do not expose your lungs to carcinogens and do not alter your mental status always seems somehow to get lost in these arguments.

But hey, in spite of the medical benefits duly trotted out in defense of weed on every occasion this question is raised, the fact of the matter is, if ganja did not produce an altered mental status, no one would buy or smoke it.

after a bad case of insomnia, i once had a cup of coffee for breakfast and was a nervous wreck. I had to drink a smirnoff ice for lunch with a bowl of soup to feel normal.

Trelli obviously after a bad case of insomnia meaning you hadn't slept for however long, drinking coffee would only amplify your state of sleeplessness and cause increased nervous irritability, but did you get hallucinations that is the question here. Furthermore smirnoff ice may be good to calm your nerves when you have the jitters, but it may not be wise to have one when you are feeling sleepy and about to drive a distance, neither would it be advisable to smoke a spliff. Let common sense dictate here.

Caffiene is known to be a health risk to people with heart diseae etc, would you give ganja to any of these same folks instead? Show me your case study delineating the benifits to the same group of smoking weed. Lets say there is no comparison between coffee and ganja, one is a mood elevator and the other is a depressant.

As far as I know (this may have changed), those nausea meds (I assume you mean Marinol?) are pills, they require that you swallow them....if you're throwing up, that doesn't work so well.

if ganja did not produce an altered mental status, no one would buy or smoke it.

i once had a cup of coffee for breakfast and was a nervous wreck. I had to drink a smirnoff ice for lunch with a bowl of soup to feel normal.

well I had it for lunch(so I wouldn't be going anywhere for hours) along with the soup to ensure that i didn't get too inebriated.

the point is that caffiene can be about as bad as any other mood altering substance.

Actually I was referring to patches (Transderm Scop), Suppositories (Tigan and others), injectables (multiple) and newer agents such as Zofran which comes as an “oral disintegrating agent” that doesn’t require anything more than your own saliva to be ingested properly.

Also, there are non drug interventions that if used in conjunction with anti-emetics will reduce the incidence of throwing up and allow those that are in pill form to be better tolerated and to work more effectively.

I agree! We need to ban food. We need to punish people if they produce endorphins or adrenalin. We should make alcohol, tobacco, chocolate, coffee, tea, and warm milk illegal. [/qb]
