Yes its a constant thing. When I'm there I pay for stuff, when I go home I give $$$ and your right, One girl lives in a canyon, in a place I could only spend 20 minutes in,oooH. She is the girl I have known for a year.
The Falmouth girl just asks,but its always BIG. One day she says." why don't you give me a large amount,$500. or $1000 US. So I don't have to ask every week. EEEK! Now thers a good ID? She's the real girl, but I have doubts, the s.e..x is way to good.BUT with all the women this has been true.
Chitown, Jamlover,Scottie all have the answer. Go to the country, meet the girl ,no Tourist town girls. Now I'm stuck, so I just have to make the best of my situation. G

When I was a visiting nurse I had a patient who was a Jamaican woman in her 30's. Her husband (from Kingston & then NYC) was giving her pure HELL. she used to say that when she got better she'd find the next one in the country. Watch out though if you are looking for a relationship be very careful casue as a friend found out the hard way the one she was playing was really the one. She took the poor sucker through hell, strung him on for a year and a half almost went to the alter and then told him she was not ready for this after the guy cut his ties and was ready to spend the rest of his life with her bought her a house (she didnt know yet) anyway he was so depressed he drowned himself. Thank god I never went throw a night mare in Jamaica. But one of my friends did,All I have to say is she put it apone herself. First time there went with someone that my friend knew . He asked me what she was doing and to tell her not to go off places she didn't know , But shes grown as she put it and knew what she was doing. Well she come home the next morning no money and the twin brother was at the house with them also. I don't need to say any more. She couldn't even tell me were the house was. You most be careful no matter were you are It don't only happen in the Islands.

WEll, ladies and gentlemen I myself have been traveling to JA for the last 5 years. I have to say that JA is my favorite and it has my heart and soul. And as for the men I think that they are just an extra added blessing from God. Now don't get me wrong, I agree with everything that was expressed by the forum good and bad. I have experienced just about everything I've read, but I have never been robbed or assaulted, praise the Lord. And I agree that a woman should not go to the island thinking it's going to be like what Stella experienced. But it will be pretty damn close! I've been there twice alone and just used general common sense just like I do at home when it came to meeting the men. I just got to say though, if you are having self esteem issues or just feel like you are in a rut and need to be rejuvenated go to JA. I guarantee those men will make you feel like a new person, if you can go with the flow. Just don't get caught up in believing something that will probably be more than you can deal with. One thing about JA men they are very direct and they appreciate a woman who is direct. Tell them what you want and tell them what you don't want and everything will be Irie. But take the time to get to know the person ask lots of questions.

From what I have read from your report on these two women it appears that they both seem to have their own agenda. Be careful of what these two are up to. From my own experience, you should not feel you are pressured to give away money, unless you feel comfortable. If it walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck....It's a duck!!!!

I am so glad someone talked about this subject. Jamaican men are notorious in “hounding” tourist women when they visit Jamaica for R&R. I am not sure if they [female tourists] give in out of fear for their lives or if they come to Jamaica for sex with black men.

I hope the government has paid attention to this matter… in regards to the female journalist who disappeared and presumed killed a few years ago.

As a female living in NY, I feel a lot safer here than in JA.

That's the term I was looking for...'hounding'!
I couldn't put my finger on what was so different between 99% of the guys in US bars/clubs/beaches and the men in Negril. (Kept thinking it's not really THAT much different if you are a single woman alone.) BUT, the 'hounding' thing IS one difference...at least for me it was.
I got followed down the beach...followed down the street...followed INTO the water...and got very little response from single, sometimes multiple, request(s) for solitude.
I have experienced that guys in the States get the hint much quicker if a woman appears NOT interested. Not always...but they certainly get embarrased or bored easier and give up sooner.
In Jamaica, the guys just don't seem to believe you? Tenacious? More self-confident? I dunno...
Without fail, if I expressed a lack of interest in a JA man's pitch, I was either prejudice, gay or just playing hard-to-get. (In any of the above cases...a second, third and usually fourth attempt is justified.)
Thank God the JA men stay pretty sweet about their come-ons. It had more of a game feel than a threatening one for the most part. But it IS 'hounding' nevertheless!

i think of it as preying...the ones that have fooled me took a more slow, cautious, and methodical approach. they sat back and appeared "different." they smiled on as i was "hounded" by the ones i wouldnt dream of getting involved with. as mentioned in a previous post, all 3 of my relationships in the last 12.5 years were with guys that hung out/worked (yes, worked and i dont mean sellin' illegal tings) in the yard where i was. the comfort level increased with constant exposure. i have never been swept off my feet while walking down the beach/street and hearing pssssssssssssssssssst.

the wedding ring will not help, unfortunately. too many women go there for extramarital flings (some WHILE their husband is back at the room) and i am afraid the message is loud and clear to them that you might just be down for whatever as well. the best deterrent is another man, local or foreign, and he must be there by your side. personally, i dont want that ball 'n chain so i just say what i mean, mean what i say, and i dont say it mean.

when i started this thread i assumed it was something that had been discussed & discussed so much that no one would be interested in saying more on the subject. i guess i was wrong...Jah knows it wouldnt be the firt time i was wrong. I seldom post here and have not read all the posts, however what are you implying here? Of all places New York City is one of the most if not the most notorious for crime and it is only recently that the murder rate has dropped significantly here.

In answer to your question, there are women who visit foreign places specifically for a good time with gigolos. I know this for a fact for this is what THEY tell me. Years ago this was uncommon in Jamaica ie the "harrassment" of tourists, and I can't believe as a Jamaican what I am hearing about Rent-A-Dreads... but for some reason this has now seem to be prevalent in the tourist areas.

To say that women might give in for fear of their lives is painting Jamaica in a very very negative, citing the disappearance of the tourist. There are sooo many reasons that could make one disappear as in her case, and no one knows the truth, but to add that into your comments is unfair.

So you feel safer in New York; I don't. There are areas that I wouldn't go here as there are areas in Jamaica that I wouldn't go. Have you checked the news sources to see how many tourists have been murdered and robbed in NY? I am asking this question for the simple reason that people in unfamiliar territory even in one's own country can be the target for criminals who capitalise on their unfamiliarity with the area.

I've had my share of experiences in oher countries as well. Itgaly is not beter where robbing tourists are concerned. A friend of mine had her fur coat cut off her in Italy, not to mention laying broken bottles in certain areas to cause flat tires, then the criminals pretend to come and help then rob the tourist. Let's get real here. Jamaica has a problem with Rent-A-Dreads; there is no negation of that, the government should do something about it post haste...and I also strongly believe that a visitor for some RandR should do just that, not be pestered by ANYONE gigolos or otherwise..btw I forgot about the Mexican experience, it is everywhere. Just fall back on the simple economic theory, there will be NO product/supply if there is NO demand. It takes two to tango. Peace.

I am in need of help I feel !!!!!
I spent a wonderful week in Jamacia at a lovely hotel - the high light - talking to a guy selling shells, he said I had a 'good soul'. I spent as much time as I could with him; only on my last day did he ask me to sleep with me. I said I could not do that, and he asked if he could meet me at the airport, I agreed, but i think we missed one another. He gave me his address, and I have been sending letters to him for the past 3 weeks (I have yet to hear from him). I am so upset, he said things that made me feel 'on top of the world' - now if I beleive all the other notes, it was just a line !!! Is it worth me still writing to him ? I have thought of nothing else since I returned (him I mean).

You will probably get a lot of real negative answers to this one, but I am going to give you one pratical thing to hold on to. It takes FOREVER for a letter to reach Jamaica. Honey the first one you wrote three weeks ago has not even gotten to him yet. Give it a lot of time if you are looking for a return letter. Most of the guys prefer calling, collect unfortuantely. I think you will hear from him. Have faith.
Also be prepared for folks to tell you he was saying those same things to someone else a week before you came and will be saying them to someone else a week after you leave. My advice would be for you to read the post "Negril Story", as those people also met with one selling something on the beach. See how their story turns out, why not you?
