I gotta echo Rose here, and say your plates brought a smile to my face. 2Negril was one of the first people I had conversations with online, which seem so long ago now! He was such a kind and gentle soul. Helpful to me back when I was sitting here on an old 386, and trying to figure it all out!

Your photos are awesome, and don't be surprised if one day in the dead of winter I show up pon your doorstep! (just kidding, LOL!)

Wow Pirate! You've had that all this time? It was you, 2Negril, and zan those early days when I first came online. The three of you were so helpful, as I was trying to learn to navigate the ICQ. Sometimes it seems like a lifetime ago, sometimes it seems like yesterday!

Right now we have the 3 Mangoes, 3 Sweetsop, 1 Soursop, 1 Key Lime, the bananas and plantain are constantly putting out babies, 2 Ackee with about 20 that are in pots that I start from seeds that fall to the ground and sprout. About 40+ Pineapples (we harvested 16 this year...they take about 2 years to grow) and more sugarcane than we can eat.

I've had Casssavah, Scotch Bonnet Pepper, and tried planting yam (without success) and a Breadfruit Tree that I lost in one on the Hurricanes that came through here a few years ago.

The Keys, of course, are formed on ancient coral rock, so you go 4 inches in the ground and you hit limestone. I had to bring in a backhoe to dig six foot deep trenches throughout the yard in order to plant the trees.

I give away any of the bananas, plantain, ackee, pinapple and ackee to anyone who wishes to take them....for free.

There aren't very many Jamaicans living in the Keys so this whole thing was started as a way to give Beverley a connection to home because she used to (actually still does) get very homesick for that "country life". [img]/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img]

My backyard is just the opposite. I planted a mango tree last year and it is flourishing beyond belief. I am sure I will have mangoes next season.

My ackee tree is growing so slowly I have been tempted to chop it down. But everyone keeps telling me to let it be. I can't wait till mine looks like yours.

Now that I know where you are, you might see me in your restaurant one day. A trip to the keys is in my near future.

Betta bring a pickup truck cause I won't let you leave without a loadfull of goodies. The Fish House is THE place to eat in the Keys. Ask anyone where to eat and they are gonna send you there, trust me. A little hole in de wall place that does about 400 to 500 dinners a night in season. Fish, Lobster and Stone Crab caught by are own fisherman. It doesn't get any better.

In the story, this is the house in Grange Hill where Beverley grew up. Here sister's kids live there now. I can't tell you how many times I sent money down there to have this house rebuilt, but, I shouldn't get started on that. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif[/img]

What really makes me happy is that my boys, though they live in the U.S., really love experiencing their Jamaican culture. If they're not out chasing chickens or something, then they're helping to roast some breadfruit or peel some Ackee...

Anyone hungry???
