Oh scottie...thank you so much for sharing your photos and story. I remembering reading it for the first time. I was sitting in the unemployment office, search the web for jobs

, that got boring so I peeked into ja.com and came across your story. It bought tears to my eyes then and with the fabulous pics, I'm on the verge of tears again. You two make a beautiful couple, I am so happy for you.

For some reason, I really like this picture. At first I was thinkin, man, that dude gotta be hot as you know what walkin down the beach with that vest on... and then, I thought, wait a minute... isn't that like tippin off the gunman? (vest on the outside)

Yeah man, see, I got this vest on... so don't waste your time shooting me in the chest... just aim for my head...

I first came to Negril on October 3rd 1983. I've long lost "official" count as to how many times I've been here but know it's somewhere in the mid fifties. On my first trip, I stayed at Perseverance for U.S $5 a night. The exchange rate was like 3 to 1.

Long gone are some of my favorite places... Fish World across from the shell station and the fire station where so many dances were held...Murphy's on the west end across from the Hi Lo where we'd play pool all night, looking out on the bay and a million stars would be seen cause there were hardly any lights on the beach that late at night. And Honey's Dive Shop down from Negril Beach Club where most days I'd just hang out with my friends Delroy and Jungle...

There were soo many vacant lots on the beach back then. All the activity seemed to center around the De Buss/Bar-B-Barn/NBC area. Walkin up to Alfred's seemed like a hike and if ya made it to Roots Bamboo it seemed so distant from town. God forbid you would be up as far as the Tree House...cause it felt like miles away...although the Tree House used to have great shows there at night. I remember one of the first shows I saw up there was with Gregory Issac, Josey Wales, Leroy Smart and this little new sensation on the Island. A singer named Half Pint [img]/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img] . Gregory Issac seemed to be playing Negril every week back then either at the Tree House, De Buss or Kaiser's Cafe on the west end. And the shows at Crow's Nest up in Red Ground...Cocoa Tea, Flourgon, Frankie Paul, The Mighty Diamonds...as often said, "those were the days".

Of course, nothing ever remains the same and the beach eventually has became more "built out" with more lights...neon lights, more jet ski's, boats, etc. the parasail platform, the "big yellow thing" in the water at Margaritaville, and now the "rock" at Risky Business.

As the growth transformed the beach , I think the change made me a little angry. There were times that I'd come to Negril and not even step foot on the beach for years at a time... I longed for those "old days and old ways".

Then, came this trip with my kids... When the kids got on the beach the first thing they said to me was, "Dad, we have to rent some jet ski's"...I said, "Okay"...

Then it was... "Dad, we have to go out to that 'big yellow thing' at Margaritaville"...Again I said, "Okay"...

Here we are, seeing who can do the best front and back flips off the "BYT"...

Then it was... "Dad, I bet we can climb up that 'rock' faster than you"...I say, "Yeah right... Bring it on...Who you kiddin'...Let's Roll"...

Man, my kids and I had the greatest time doing those things.

Sure the beach has changed... More like evolved. And although it's different, for me, it's still this magical place.

The crime, corruption, sex trade, the destruction of Bloody Bay, water quality, etc. still troubles me. But the beauty of this Island, the food, the music, especially the people; the culture of Jamaicans, has enriched my life tremendously...

I just love this Island of Jamaica.

These pictures were taken with a [Konica] 5 megapixel digital camera that I bought just before the trip. I know nothing about digital photography but found this website that helped me tremedously in making a decision on which type of camera to buy...Short course on digital cameras and photography

It amazes me that 5MP cameras can be bought for under $200. $199 5MP Digital Camera

Last night Beverley and I read through the whole thread here and she asked that I holla one large Big Up to all of you that have posted such beautiful comments about her and her boyz. (I hope Marilyn is kidding about hating har).

Our relationship is like any other one that succeeds. We have our good and bad days, ruff and easy times, but we both know it takes a lot of committment and compromise to stay happy.

Yes, we've been truly blessed and we always thank God for His blessing on us.

Now I have a bone to pick with some of you here at Jamaicans.com.

Last July you had a bashment in Negril and Bev and I were gonna be in Mo Bay that same weekend. So I inquired (here) about the times and places of the events and was told that the events started at the times posted, etc.

So we decide to stay Saturday night in Negril so we could attend the Karaoke contest at NYC and then the Sunday Brunch at Selina's.

We arrive at NYC (7PM) for the Karaoke contest and their is not a soul in sight. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif[/img] Wait around for about an hour or so, and decide to leave cause maybe I got the wrong place/time or something.

Next morning, same thing at Selina's. We arrive 10AM but don't see anyone from Ja.com. So we have our coffee and leave. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif[/img]

Then the other day I see all the pics from the bashment over on Discover and I'm thinkin, damn...did someone play a joke on us or what? [img]/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img]

Seriously though, I'm really sad that we didn't have the opportunity to meet some of you... I'm sure there will be another time.

And speaking of Selina's...

Some of you probably know Rob Graves (fellow Buckeye)... who pioneered "the other" website on Negril...

[img]/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif[/img] Scottie...I cant believe we missed you at bashmetn...I guess everyone was on Jamaican time cause I also showed up for Kareoke night at the time stated and not a member in sight...so I went to my room...chilled for an hour and went back...I was also an hour+ late for breakfast at selinas and when I got there everyone was just ordering...SOOOOOO sorry we missed you. It would have been great. Please plan for next years bashment also in July...but in Ochi this time.

The agenda is being worked up now...contact has been made with some sponsors and things arre coming together nicely. REally hoping for a large crowd that includes you and the family.
