geo...mi got it bad, bad, bad!! unfortunately, Karen has no more vacation time 'til January 1...so I'm thinkin'January 2!! [img]/forums/images/graemlins/704555_dwl.gif[/img] I'm proud to report that Karen also has the bug now!! she's already expressed an interest in Negril!!...but preparations are palliative, at best....you're right....we know the cure... [img]/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif[/img]

We inched ( and I mean inched!! ) our way up the steep, white-graveled road....the curious stares from Trevor's neighbors melted into warm, welcoming smiles when I offered my simple, heartfelt "Good Day!" thru the car window........with a sudden right-hand turn, we were in Trevor's yaad..... I stepped out of the car, returned the wave of the fisherman walkin' home with his catch, and went to meet Trevor's family...
Diane was sittin' pon the verandah, lovingly feeding the family's newest addition,an adorable likkle girl who was all of 6-8 months old....
I have to apologize at this point...I was so over-stimulated, and so caught up in the magic of the moment, that I simply forgot to take pictures [img]/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif[/img] [img]/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif[/img] ...and forgot to jot down the children's names.. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif[/img] [img]/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif[/img] believe me, no one is more upset about this than I am... or, maybe subliminally, I was just lookin' for an excuse to return!! [img]/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img]
Nevertheless, we greeted each of them with a smile and a hello....2 boys and 3 girls, the oldest being a son, 15 years of age....each and everyone an absolutely beautiful child [img]/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img]
Trevor asked if we'd like a piece of fruit.....imagine my surprise when he promptly turned, climbed a tree, and picked a ripe sweetsop!!! another first for us!!! the creamy, custardy fruit was wonderful.....and more seeds to spit!! ptooey!!! [img]/forums/images/graemlins/704555_dwl.gif[/img] [img]/forums/images/graemlins/704555_dwl.gif[/img]
Trevor showed us the other trees in his yard....breadfruit, grapefruit, apple, coconuts...I marveled, for the first of many times, at how the Earth provides....if I want a piece of fruit here at home, I have to hop in the car, drive to the store, sift thru produce that has ripened who-knows-where, wait in a line, pay for my food, and carry it home in a plastic sack.... Trevor simply goes outside, finds a ripe piece, and eats it....Creation is a wonderful thing.....
Trevor very proudly offered us a tour of the house....he explained that it had started as one room and a bathroom some 14-15 years ago....he gradually added more rooms and today has 3 bedrooms, bath, kitchen and sitting room....a good, solid house....obviously the result of many hours of sweat-equity....
We could have spent the rest of the day here, but Trevor had other plans for us......
We offered our thanks and good-byes, and rolled back down the road, answering questioning looks just as we'd done earlier....Comment

DD, this is a good report and I love the pictures. Sounds like your adventure is just getting started and how lucky are we that we can go along with you on this trip....yeah us!
Now, you must know that sleep is not an excuse when you are writing a trip report. I don't know why no one told you about the rules as yet, but thought you would like to know just the same. With that said, wake up...get back to posting. I wanna read about the Rasta.Comment

We continued westbound on the hiway, towards MoBay...mountains to the left, sea to the right, Bob Marley crankin' on the CD player.....Trevor was pleasantly surprised to hear me singin' along with the Bob sounds....word-for-word!!! [img]/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img]
Other than my times at Sangster, I had never really seen MoBay....I might give it a try at some point, but for now, it was just a little too "touristy" for me.....the Burger King, Pizza Harlot and KFC didn't help matters much....
We had mentioned in the course of our conversations that we wanted to find some dolls, toys, etc., to bring home.... we turned onto a little sidestreet and parked the car....Trevor introduced us to Hyacinth,
"she 'ave a likkle shop"....
We followed Hyacinth thru a little tunnel and entered a courtyard ringed with 8-10 craft stalls....these are some of the things we bought..
Top left; a Bob backpack for my 11 y.o. nephew...top right; dolls for my nieces 3,7,8 y.o....bottom left; a maraca for a friend ...bottom right; a bamboo drum for my collection...center; a Jamaican yo-yo for my 1 y.o. nephew....
the dolls are just too cute!!
each of the dolls has two heads ...simply flip it over, fold the dress over, and there's another doll!!! the two on the outside have an "awake" face and a "sleepy" face on each side...the middle doll is holding her baby on one side, and apparently has just dropped off baby at the sitter on the other!! [img]/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img]
thrilled with our finds, we got back in the car and headed off....Comment

I a little vague about directions from this point...as best as I can tell, we headed south outta MoBay...towards the country...
every once in a while, I'd hear an especially poignant lyric from Bob.... [img]/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img] and my emotions would bubble over again...a couple tears and sniffles later and I'm back to enjoying the scenery!! [img]/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img]
In case you haven't noticed, I'm completely at ease with any way my emotions choose to manifest themselves....crying, laughing, singing, dancing.....as long as I'm feelin' something, I'm feelin' alright!!
The last road sign I saw indicated that we were near a place called Hurlock, St James....but still we climbed higher...
Trevor parked the car.... we crossed the road....again disarming curious stares with smiles [img]/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img] and entered the forest....down a little dirt path...and over a stream....
the stream is the Rastamon's water supply....
and up yet anther hill....Stripes firmly in hand!!
a few steps later, we entered the Rastamon"s camp......Comment

t'ree, four breadfruit roastng on an open fire....a pot of coconut milk simmering with a country pepper...these are my first images of the camp....
a tall, barefoot, barechested dread of indeterminate age approached...

apparently, no one knows the Rastamon's name....I suspect that even he does not know his true name.....
he welcomed us as new friends...... [img]/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img] and explained that he lives there by himself....and raises different types of fowl...
these are his egg-layers...
and other assorted fowl....
he also kept a peacock!!! If you look iin the upper left hand corner, that's the dutchie of simmering coconut milk with bread fruit roasting behind the pot....
this might be a little difficult to see...the birds don't take direction very well [img]/forums/images/graemlins/704555_dwl.gif[/img] there's a grey bird near the center...I had a likkle trouble understanding the story, but it sounded like it's good to have this bird around in case someone set a duppy pon ya....
