Jamaicans also like Lionel Richie, more than he realized, it seems. At Sumfest last year he kept saying over & over, "I can't believe this, you (the crowd) know all the words to all my songs."

He later said he'd been worried about hitting some of the high notes in songs, and was pleased to still be able to do it.... before he realized it was the crowd hitting the high notes, not him. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/70361-embarassed.gif[/img]

one of the things i adore about jamaicans is that many of them are into all different types of music.

Well, I deal with that Scooby Doo nonsense, lol...but like I will never Scooby I will never 'swim' on a dance floor either, heh heh heh, or I guess what...Grease Lightnin'.

Amnesia is indeed the same, as is Asylum, QUAD, all the go-go joints, blah blah blah...even with the nonsense the dance is always HOT.

Pure dancehall and reggae can be found of course, at parties or at shows. But shows usually suck, because first of all they only play about 15 seconds of a song before you are subjected to fag-hate for like minutes, you have to deal with who is going to show, who has attitude because of where they are in the lineup and the trash talking, (I once stood for 5 solid minutes listening to Capleton ask the crowd what they wanted him to talk about. Nobody wanted him to talk. They wanted him to sing. He shouted down all their comical answers and went right back to fag-hate as if that is what everyone wanted to hear. after another 10 second wind up and wind down we just split and put on a Capleton CD, lol...) And the good artists don't play until the sun is almost up, lol...I never actually go to a show to see performers, just hang out with friends.

Speaking of oddballs who are popular...Kenny Rogers is also huge...I know a couple sound systems that splice up some of his old jams as clash intros.

And Johnny Cash is tremendous.

M- "MJ" is Michael Jackson, lol...

I'd love to produce a show with MJ...I don't think there's a big enough place to hold it, you couldn't contain it.

And very well that Johnny Cash should be hailed as tremendous!! What a Crying Shame the industry that he helped shape, held him outcast for such a dreadful long time. to the upcoming generations as well as other cultures that wrapped their arms around him and held him to the standard of the brilliant songwriter and musician that he was!

Finally and with a huge amount of sweat lost we get to Miss Sonia’s. Again, it is just beautiful. Although I’m hot and exhausted I have to look around for a bit.

Once inside we sit down at the table. Her grandson comes out and asks us if we want anything to drink. Later her son comes out and gives us the menus. I again get another surprise-Ms. Sonia has lobster. I decide on the lobster patty for here and a crab patty to go. After that long exhausting walk we are all giddy that the food is coming. But where is Ms. Sonia? After a while I finally spot her in the back near the kitchen. When her son comes to the table to give us our drinks I ask if we will get to meet Ms. Sonia. He says-yeah mon. She’ll be out once she is finished cooking. Ms. Sonia later came out and graced us with her presence after we received our wonderful patties. OMG-they were so good. I wish I had one in front of me right now. Just pure perfection. Miss Sonia has such a kind face and a nice spirit. She told us that she was sorry that she missed us on our first visit. She was up in the country feeding the shut in. Stacy had some clothes for her that she could use for her volunteer work. She explained all of her charitable works and told us that she sells her handmade crocheted (or was is knit?) work to support her charitable endeavors. She also told us about how she is a Negril original and how she saw the area of Negril develop from its infancy during the hippie years to all the hotels that are there today. She also told us about a African-American who brought African-Americans to Negril. She said her name was Gail Jackson. I lit up because we are supposed to be visiting a school tomorrow with Gail. After spending a nice afternoon with Miss Sonia we decided to head back down the road. I swear the walk back was quicker. Maybe it was due to the great food and conversation.

Beach Day




After we got back to the hotel, we decided to do a beach day and just chill. While talking to Miss Sonia, I remembered that I hadn’t called Gail Jackson to confirm going to the school. We had all brought school supplies and were excited about going to visit the children. I called the Tree House, but she didn’t answer her line. I decided that I’d take the phone to the beach and call later. After everyone was dressed, we headed outside. It was again a beautiful day in Negril. I put all my stuff down and headed to the water. I didn’t stay out as long this time. I also wanted to get some sun time. After lounging in the water, I decided to head back to the chairs. As soon as I got out I noticed how overcast it was looking. I laid down, picked up my rum punch and tried to absorb some sun. After lounging a while, I took a couple of pics. Since it was looking more and more overcast, I picked up the ladies bags and headed inside. Soon after, Stacy and Tonya came in. We lounged around until it was time to go to Roots Bamboo.

I guess I was more tired than I though, but I fell asleep. When I woke up the girls said that they were ready to walk down to Roots. I told them to go ahead and start without me. I was moving slow and didn’t feel like hurrying up. They left and I puttered around and got myself together. When I got outside saw the sun go down. When I started walking down the beach, Tonya’s husband popped out behind a building and asked me-Why the girls leave you? I just burst out laughing. I told him that I feel asleep, and just couldn’t get going. He told me to enjoy myself at Roots-Guess he already talked to Stacy and Tonya. I enjoyed my walk down the beach until it started to really get dark. Some of ya’ll already know about my self defense class-right. Well I’m walking with things in my hands-dang-you should always have your hands free if something happens. And this fool is behind me trying to talk to me. Oh well, I shook it off and kept walking. Occasionally I would talk to people as I would pass.
