So, I decided to venture into the driving in Jamaica world. I was very nervous, at first. My biggest fear is the road in and out of Little Bay. I was mostly afraid of bottoming out in a pothole (I use the term loosely) and hurting Courtney's van. Really, it wasn't that bad at all, especially with a navigator that knows where the holes and dips are. I was perfectly comfortable in no time, and it wasn't a problem at all. The only thing I kept doing wrong was instinctively going to the wrong side of the car to get it! [img]/forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif[/img] It was so much more comfortable to go to town and get supplies and things for Purple Rain, going from store to store and so on. Courtney is wonderful, and always charges the same rate no matter how long we take, but I would hate to ask him to turn around and go back down Great George Street in Sav because I forgot something. I drove several days over the course of two weeks, and I can tell you that I would like to get my own wheels from now on.

When I first started going to Sav, Cug wouldn't let me wander more than a few feet from him. He was always cautioning me to hold my purse, never take anything out of my purse on the street and so on. Now, I guess he thinks I am an old pro. While he stood in endless JPS lines at least 4 times, trying to get his meter turned on, and some other things sorted, I couldn't just stand there....hate to waste time like that. So, I went off, and got various things for the house, as well as things I needed. One time, I bought six pillows for the guest house from this woman. I also looked around her shop. It never ceases to amaze me the disparate assortment of stuff in Jamaican shops. Anway, I was looking at some kitchen knives, and she told me that she had some that the packaging was damaged in the hurricane last year. I said, great, let's see them, and selected a set with a plastic cutting board. Paid my money and off I went.

When I went to use them after they were washed, they were all spotty and nasty looking. I thought maybe it was a coating, so I scrubbed them again, and set about making dinner. When I went to slice my onion, it was leaving "rusty" discoloration on it! I was so annoyed. The steel was apparently bad cheap stuff, and the whole set was gross. You couldn't keep them from getting rust marks, no matter how quickly you dried them. So, I wrapped them all back up, and planned to return them next time in twon. Cug and his sisters were incredulous that I was doing that, or that I would get my money back. Tehy asked me if I had my recepit still....receipt? Who gets a receipt in a little shop like that? Sure enough, I brought them back with zero hassle. Of course the woman remembered me instantly, and went to the till and got my money as soon as she saw the knives. I didn't even have to remind her how much I had paid. They were amazed! And, I forgot to bring the plastic cutting board, so he still has that!

They told me that from now on, I will be going to Sav alone. Hhhhmmm. I don't think so.

BOAL!! about your shopping and being dissatisfied - returning and getting you money back ....

If there is anything we purchase and I am not pleased with the results - I chat I want to return the product and get my money back ... he just rolls his eyes and tells me that would never happen ... Good for you!

Thanks so much Miss Sunshine! Yes, I am still posting....only have bits of time here and there. My husband and I are really hoping that Cug's Guest House will get off the ground. It is the hope for the future for he and his sisters.

I realize this report is a sort of scattered, but, well, oh well. I am not done, I have more to write and post, even if it is just for me. If someone else wants to read it, then great, all the better!

WAHOOOO Greenie you Drove!!! Isn't it GREAT! The first time I ever drove in Jamaica was from Negril to Little Bay & back in a Jeep. That was the day I first had a soak in the mineral spring!

LOVE LOVE LOVE the greenery! Everything is looking so beautiful and lush and your baby Biscuits look so at home and hapy there too!

I hope someday we can be sitting down there together on the verandah and while away some afternoons....

I am enjoying your report and Purple Rain looks great. I know Cug will be a great innkeeper!

Your kids are very adorable. It looks like they really enjoy their jamaica experiences. It is so nice for kids to have freedom to play outside without fear.

Advertising? Nah I do't see advertising here at all. What I see is Greenie's story of taking a working vacation to help a friend and share it with the many of us that have followed her story from her first trip to Little Bay to Coconuts where she made friends that worked there, only to face losing contact with them when the owner was killed and the place closed for good. You see, there is a whole story here that goes back years now.

On these pages there are photos in one trip report of a Rasta place being built on the hills outside Negril, along with particulars. I used to post about the Donkey Races at Uncle Sam's every year and that led to the event becoming a sponser along with one of the hotels in Little Bay; Coral Cove. I would come back and post photos and write trip reports of the Donkey Races and then people found a fun out of the way backroads Jamaica something to do that they probably never would have even heard of, and some of us met there and had a grand time.

I see a wholesome trip report here depicting a scene in which people care for one another and help eachother grow and I do not see the possibility of anyone gaining a whole lot of business because of it. If some people that read this find thier way to a community that was mostly decimated by Hurricane Ivan and has not yet recovered then that is a wonderful thing. Hurricane Ivan is far from the worst thing that has happened to this community in the past year and a half, and as a matter of fact, it's not just the reality that the owner of Coconuts was killed and that place closed down, there are other guest house that have also been shut down in a related scenario.

The people in this area have been suffering for two tourist seasons now because there are far less available accomadations for tourists and not all of us are fortunate to have our own place there. Most people do not even know Little Bay exists, they certainly wouldn't be hearing about it from a travel agency.

Well Remo, those are my feelings on this subject, and yes, obviously I have very strong ones on the matter. and I honestly do not see Green Buscuit as having the intent of advertising Purple Rain when she began this trip report that many of us has begged her for since she returned, what now, 2 months ago???
