My point was you can survive and live very good life in Manhatten and westchester county without leaving and going to Queens or NJ, Portmore people can't do that zeen, so you cant mek same comparison, dat a apple and orange ting.

Anyways, me go back to me odda pint, if yuh a drive yuh owna vehicle from Portmore to Kingston...$60 nah go bruck yuh. Yuh might vex cause now yuh haffi eat one patty instead a two.

you're detachment from the situation may be the culprit for the lack of thorough thinking and appreciation on the citizens of Portmore

Sarry if me sound like me a trivialize it to yuh, but a suh me stay. America, Jamaica, town, country....yuh want it, yuh haffi pay. A just so me believe. Sometimes yuh don't have a choice and you are forced to pay. Dats just life.

Me nuh love gi my money to Dubya and company, but wha fi do? Me haffi move tings round and cut back here and there, cause me nuh rich. Sometimes di bills dem pinch me, but what me must do, siddung inna dark cause FPL raise dem rates aftah Hurricane Wilma?

How me used to shot it, me can't do it agen. Gas prices gone up, food gone up, electric rate gone up, and when time fi renew my homeowners policy, dat suppose fi go up nuff dis year. All these things are increasing at a higher rate than my salary. So, me haffi adjust.

Me nuh want no house a Portmore, a country me come from.

From what i have understood... people were encouraged to buy in Portmore... lots of neighborhoods there.. easy access to kingston.. with a free causeway in and out... they bought there.. moved there... with no toll.. so didn't have to consider that into their thinking...

people who occasionally go over the causeway... to go visit in Portmore or to go to hellshire.. a visitor like me.. well who cares the one time 60 dollars....

but if you were to go every single day to work.. want to go home.. run errands... it's a huge price to pay on any wage...

i think better roadways is a good thing.. esp when there can be such a huge build up on that route in and out of town... people leaving in the morning two hours before work.. just to get across... never mind if you were critically ill and had to get to a hospital..

i think there needs to be a break for Portmore residents... either they pay a meager amt.. or none at all... truly is not fair or reasonable to expect them to pay for what was always free before..

peps.. i understand what you were trying to say.. there are tolls all over here.. the difference is we have always been used to it.... no matter which way i go into the city i have to pay.. and it ain't cheap... cost of travel... but it's a choice.. and i didn't move here without factoring that in...

i take tolls as a fact of life.. Portmore residents never had this... so it's quite difficult to think they can just adjust to this added financial pressure

So Q.... you carpooling.. or protesting?? would it be easier to bus it to work.. and back.. or the added hassle of a million stops make it not worth the headache? I know how often you go back and forth.. i can understand your upset.

I work across state lines and pay tolls every day. I don't presume to be able to speak for the residents of portmore, but what is the trade-off? How much more does it cost in wear and tear and gasoline to travel Mandela?
