Re: letter: what is really wrong with Jamaica
Littleman posted this crap:
I don't know, official statistics aren't available, but I have heard that suspicion of stealing in Cuba (for example) can result in an instant execution, no questions asked..the police are judge, jury, and executioner.
JC: Where did you get that?
It is common knowledge that the maximum sentence in Cuba is usually 30 years for the most serious crimes with just a few executions for a general who smuggled drugs and a few others:
Littleman:
I have heard of people being shot, for merely trying to escape Cuba.
JC- Post your source
Littleman:
One account I have heard of, from a former U.S. Marine Corpsman, had Cuban snipers in military helicopters, gunning down Cubans trying to flee through Guantanamo Bay.
JC- Any accounts of this in any publication even the right wing anti-Cuban websites? Cubans can leave Cuba anytime they want to. Why would they swim across Guantanamo? Of course the U.S. doesn't grant visas to many Cubans.
I read a report that the U.S official in charge of the visa program in Cuba complained to his bosses in Washington that there were so few cases where he could verify political repression to justify granting visas.
Hey, it's quite evident that you'll drag up anything negative about Cuba that you can find or make up because you dislike socialism and probably democracy since capitalism and the usual two-party political systems that go hand in hand with capitalism are totalitarian.
Secondly, Both Dr.Dudd on the middle-left of the political spectrum and Walhalla on the far right, refuse to use spellcheck or other programs for whatever reason.
For the most part both are understandable nonetheless although Walhalla does become not understandable when he is in a rage and doesn't proofread what he posts for clarity of thought.
It would be best if both were to correct their posts but they don't. Maybe they don't have the time.
Anyway, with them, we have to deal with the subject matter and not in the manner in which they present it.
Lastly, this thread is about what is really wrong with Jamaica.
I say it is the outmoded electoral systems in which the same two ineffectual parties are elected and reelected and the outmoded neo-liberal economic system that hasn't improved the lives of the people much since independence.
When I point out that half the world lives in capitalist induced poverty, you point to the Bahamas and Barbados and say SEE capitalism works.
Don't the other couple of billion people in the Third World who barely survive on 1-2 dollars a day enter into your thinking at all? Do not the tens of millions who die from the effects of poverty EVERY year count in your very small way of thinking?
Capitalism is not the answer to global poverty.
It is the cause.
Your solution is more of the same which is not moral and not acceptable.
