Re: letter: what is really wrong with Jamaica
Littleman:
"As if I would put my mind out for every person who suffers, or dies on this earth !!! What am I, God? I may remember others in prayer, or help those in reach, but that's where the buck stops."
JC- What was it Donne wrote? "The death of each man diminishes me"...?
In your world view and in your personal morality or lack thereof you'd help anyone within sight who needed it but that ends your concern for humanity.
How sad.
Littleman (changing the subject) :"
"I bet you couldn't answer the question of the millions who died in Soviet concentration camps, or in Pol Pot's insane prisons, and why they had to die for socialism/communism or whatever the heck you call it (matters not a bit to me, of course). ONE DUMB QUESTION DESERVES ANOTHER...
JC- Well you're half right. Your question is dumb since the killings under Stalin and Pol Pot had nothing to do with the economics of socialism and everything to do with the sort of top-down totalitarian political systems you so adore. Capitalism is pure totalitarianism and the two-party political systems in most capitalist countries are also top-down and therefore totalitarian.
Littleman:
"I'll tell you what...I am very happy in capitalism,
JC- I'll bet you are. I'll bet YOU'RE doing just fine.
The problem is that half the world's people who have been forced to live under capitalism aren't as fortunate as you. They barely survive on 1-2 dollars a day and die by the tens of millions because THEY can't make the money you do.
You don't see the immorality in the fact that in the world today, there is enough of everything to provide a good life for all the people of the Earth and that because of capitalism the money needed is sitting in Swiss bank accounts while those billions live in misery and die in agony. But then, you can't SEE them so it's not your problem, right? But you do rabidly support the economic system that kills them and condemn the socialist economy in Cuba and elsewhere that could save them.
Littleman:
"and the fact that I can choose to be where I want to be, when I want to be there. I also choose to live ONLY in capitalist countries."
JC: and of course you're also pointing out that a certain POLITICAL system and the political freedoms in that system is what gives you the freedom to be where you want to be, when you want to be there etc.
Again you are mixing up politics with economics which just makes your argument nonsense.
BY not answering the big question originally asked: What are capitalism's cures for the poverty it creates? You have indeed answered my question in a roundabout way.
It's just too bad you cannot be honest about it.
Capitalism has always been a failure for humanity and it will always be a failure for humanity.
It is based upon greed and corrupts wherever and whomever is under its control.
It is immoral and it is the God you worship.
You should try REAL Christianity sometime.
They believe in redemption.
