Sounds like they needed to toughen up thier police force and get a new police cheif. I recall how Guiliani cleaned up the worst areas of nyc. I mean the worst roughest areas like within a few months you saw no drugdealers, heard no gunshots, saw no people hanging out late at night.

He also benefitted from a nationwide crime drop. NYC's crime rate didn't drop much further than any other city during that time, yet he does like to take credit for it, i know.

Ask Amadou Diallo (well you can't, he's dead) or Abner Louima or Patrick Dorismond what they think of his methods....or any of the mostly black folks who were strip searched for jaywalking or fare-dodging.

Quite frankly I`ve heard so much about kingston being the murder capital of the world I expected the whole map to be red.

medallion hall is actually to the left of the volatile area which is actually standpipe. if you notice an H inside a circle, that is actually the location of medallion hall at that intersection. the hotel is actually in a "good area."

Donerobin has always been safe middle class area. There is no question about it now being safe. A more pertinent question other than your guffawing is when will it be red.
The map has some demographic flaws which leaves questions about its authenticity. Where there is said to be Slipe Rd. it is actually Old Hope Rd.
Maxfieled Ave is seen twice. One at true location and other where it should be Lyndhurst Rd.
For some umknown reason Grants Pen and Barbican Sq are not coloured red, not even yellow. Nannyville no yellow?
Richmond Park has no cemetery where illustrated.
Many more inaccuracies will be seen if one studies the map.
Cynically of all is to the right of Cross Rds. it is done yellow and 95% of that area is where we call Camp, the HQ of the Jamaica Defense Force. Swallowfield makes up the other 5% of that area and there are no major problems there.
Most of the yellowed in places are low income areas or ghettoes and that is why there is a un-coloured space between Whitehall Ave. and Maverly as a reader asked in a previous post. In between the 2 are middle-income areas such as Hughenden, Arlene Gdns.

The map however does give a general picture of volatile areas in Kingston barring the inaccuracies stated above. Why some areas are excluded and/or included leaves one to ask just what message/ information does the author wish to convey to his readers.

The muddy waters of corruption seen mid way down stream at the police force started from the head waters above where political decisions and power broking is weilded.
From that point, the police force in only one of a few appendages from the main body called the GOJ that one half wittingly only sees as corrupt and influential to the volatility manifested in Kingston and Jamaica.

Trust me, any corruption in any of the civil service departments such as the police and the various ministries is known by members of the GOJ. Only they have the power to stomp out corruption. First, they need the will and if it doesn`t suit them, corruption will be part of the politics of this country for a very long time. One of the reasons why corruption is so prevalent, is because there is not interest for Jamaica as a nation at heart. What`s their main interest is allegiance to political party.
That is our main handicap for attaining true independence.
Jamaica needs independence not from Britain, the USA, the Vatican or Rome, but from ourselves. We need independence from the 2 political parties that has sewn ill-will and corruption within the minds and hearts of Jamaicans today.

Dunrobin....Ironic name for a place that claims every one is a proud strong black people. Dunrobin Castle.. That was the seat of the Sutherland Regiment, those fellows who follow Col Gutrie and fought the Maroons.. Also tje owner of the Castle bought artifacts from Magdala.... They then ring the apartment over their intercom and if the residence decide to see you they open the big steal gate - which slides open and let you in. Sounds like the building I lived in growing up in NYC, minus the gate. When I was little you could just walk in, by the time I was 12, step by step, they added intercom, camera, etc.

Most of the lower parts of City Kingston have been under siege and in the red, since the 50s. Matthews Lane Group 59 was the first organized garrison.

The State of Jamaica has been at war with some of its citizens since the 70s. Neighbours were armed against neighbours. Now you tell me where else is this a natural progression?
Is this typical for other modern cities, except Haiti and a some other notable places?

One can excuse your idealism, but no, this in and of itself will not work. It would help a ton though, if they get a police chief who is about his job and not pleasing his political boss.
