In theory, I should be able to have seperate drives for both OS' and my data, so I shouldnt have to worry but the re-install thing right?

well to me THAT plan is far more complicated (and annoying) than makin an investment of time, one time up front, to reload evrything and done. that separate drives thing would make me nuts cause its ongoing and would always be havin to think about which what is where? U see me, i want erything all in one nice neat package without ever havin to think bout it again once evrything is loaded and ready to go. but of course that's just my personal preference.

no I dont mind the seperate drive thing because I had that at one of my previous jobs. It doesnt frustrate me at all. I rather liked it that way which is what inspired me to do the same at home.

I also dont want to lose my cookies and saved passwords either. I have alot of client stuff stored thru those mechanisms, so to restore that will definitely kill me cause I have forgotten some of them.


We will see how it goes.

the last time I had to re-install my OS it took 2 DAYS to complete, so this is a cake walk for me I'll be done tonight

oh yes, favorites, cookies, passwords, yeh i hear u on that. mine are spread over three different machines right now and that is kinda annoying. to consolidate, i'm sending eveyrything to myself on e-mail, makes a great temp upload server. then i transfer to the new machine off e-mail attachments.

sounds like u have the partition thing well in hand though, i hope it works! i'm downloading the Linux right now so will see how that works alongside windows too !

My friend recommended a software called <span style="font-weight: bold">password keeper </span>that can keep track of all that for you. I'm gonna download it once I am done. I can then print of the list and store it in my safe - and then I only have to remember one password to get in. She uses it for business purposes, so hopefully, it will work for me as well.

that sounds cool, i'd be interested to know how it works. i keep an excel spreadsheet with my account names/passwords all coded - i only use 3-4 different ones so i know which code is what password. even if someone would ever find a printout of it they still couldn't access anything.

you can do the 30-day trial thing to see how you like it before purchasing.

I use kinda the same system but I dont have control over other ppl's passwords, etc. that I have to store. It is amazing how things get jumbled in my poor head nowadays.

One of my customers, installed a new PC at their office for when I do work there. Well, I thought the IT guy was gonna beat me because I swore up and down that I remembered passwords to the servers, programs and files on my old PC, etc. and I got all of them wrong Long story short, it was a pain to untangle

So, they okayed me to purchase a password keeper software for their office as well, and a hardcopy list was generated to be stored off site so that no one has to rely on my memory again

Hey are you doing this on your laptop?
Did you get it done?

What would do is to blow up the drive completely.... the easiest way to do that is outside of the Operating system in DOS.
Does you Laptop have a floppy or just the CDROM?

No, I am doing this on my desktop since it is the one with the annoying Vista program. I am fine with the laptop. It is just that I had to install a new wireless laser printer at home and the desktop caused me no endless grief but I was able to network just fine with my laptop running XP.

The partition thing isnt a 100% completed yet. Once it is done I think setting up the seperate drives should go quickly....or are you gonna tell me otherwise.

I have the full version XP disk, if that is what you are referring to
