GS - throughout our careers both my husband and I have had great luck with personnel agencies in Toronto (and even Workopolis for me).

We use to register with several at once - temporary and full-time. And don't forget about the municipal offices - Toronto, Mississauga, Markham, Ajax, Pickering, Brampton - can't hurt to leave your resume with these surrounding municipal offices.

I'm with several agencies and the last job I got ended the first week of september of last year, I'm on workopolis and monster and applied for positions, nothing yet make your resume searchable and you get a LOT of scam attempts.

well with Toronto on strike they aren't accepting any resumes, there is a job I really want to apply for with the city but I have to wait until the strike is over and get my emergency first aid certification, but I need to find the $$ to pay for that. I have looked into surrounding municipalities, but job postings online not going there to give my resume. I'll look into the locations and do that. thanks.

Good evening, we just had a great rain and thunderstorm here in Negril. Makes me feel very alive!

Anyway, I want to say Grayskull, yes make that appointment, one way or another it should make you feel better.

The next thing is, I know the job market is little to none right now, but have you rewritten or had your resume written lately?
Sometimes it makes a huge difference to tweek a resume, just a little. You may consider looking into that.

I wish you all the luck in the world in finding resolution to your predicament.

I have a small business here in Jamaica and this has been the slowest year for me so far. Fortunately I know how to live simple and need for little. I spend alot of time entertaining myself for free or in the company of friends.

Things will get better. I for one appreciate your honesty and in sharing your story with us.

Thanks, I've constantly had it rewritten looked at and tweaked. One lady who was in HR had me fix stuff send it to her then she'd send it back and tell me what else needs to be fixed. I just got it rewritten and returned to me last week so that's the one I've been using.

I'm hoping heavily on the job with the city, it's to teach art classes to children, it is available year round and the pay is workable. I'm not sure of the hours though as they don't mention it. But even if it's not a lot, it would be something and can lead to other things. What I really want is a stable steady job with pay that I can make work. what that means is it doesn't have to be great, but it has to be enough that I can pay my bills and start saving. I'm going to try to scrounge up the $100 for the first aid course that way when the city is off the strike I can apply right away to the teaching job.

I hope that things pick up for your business as well and those in this thread that are hurting get to heal too. I'm sorry to have turned it all on to me but I needed somewhere to turn immediately. My heart feels crushed and I am scared of the future. I thank everyone again for not judging me or attacking me, but for offering suggestions and help.

btw you should send you resume to the Workers Safety and Insurance Board in Toronto(formerly the Workers Compensation Board. I know they are hiring.

Getting back to work, even at a low rate of pay is HUGE!
I spent 20 years with the same company and got laid off. Went to school, couldn't find a job, single parent, living with family... I was a mess. After all those years of taking care of myself &amp; others on my own, I couldn't handle it.

I started back at a temp job for half what I was used to making, but it got me up and out of the house and busy. Interacting with other people.
It IS a big step toward feeling better. But keep an open mind. You never know what will come up that will at least get you busy and a paycheck in your pocket.

Thanks for the feedback on the comic strips, as it goes on I feel they look better. I still have more to post and before anyone asks yes I've been trying to sell it as a daily strip to papers, nothing has happened yet. I'm looking into the west indian papers to see if they'll bite.

honestly if I could get 12 papers to buy a daily strip from me I'll be ok. even 10 I can make work. The steps I first took was going to the syndicates to see if they'd bite and then they'd do the selling that gives me a lot more exposure, but none have taken me on. So I have been attempting selling it independently, nothing has happened so far except for a very enthusiastic response from the owner of a west indian free weekly paper here in Toronto, but aside from that enthusiasm he hasn't put me in the paper due to lack of space and a contact he was going to link me with disappeared on him.

Then my cousin who works for a paper gave me another glowing review said everyone at her work loves it and so forth but never came through with anything either, and yes I've pushed her and such, she said they were going to publish it as a feature but then never got back to me. I thought hey if I could get some exposure I'm sure I could get enough of the public to want to see more.

I do draw and sketch and paint more realistically as well but I have more fun with the cartooning. I'm not very fast with the realism stuff, and usually I am only good when thoroughly inspired. I'm hoping to turn this into something but it's hard and again I need to make a living just in case things never happen with this. I've derailed the prayer thread again, but if you guys can pray for my strip to get picked up that would be great.

I am going to go to the after hours clinic later today to talk to someone. I don't know if it will help and truth be told I'm nervous, I'm so emotional and I don't want to cry/bawl in front of anyone. I need strength to go on and I'm having trouble finding it.

As her car sat waiting for a light to change, a tractor trailoer hauling 10,000 pounds of corn lost it's brakes on what was the steepest off ramp on the east coast and ran over her likkle Subaru from behind. The truck then tipped over on the subaru and burst in to flames.
The coroner said she died instantly. I pray that it's true.
The driver jumped from the cab and ran a mile before he was caught. He was unlicensed, uninsured and they found coke &amp; weed in the truck. The truck had failed 3 previous safety inspections and the driver and his truck should never have bee on the road.
It shook me like nothing had ever shaken me before.
Simple case of wrong place wrong time. But so totally out of her control.
8 hours after we were all together, one of us was gone. Forever.

In the following week, I lost 2 more old friends. One to cancer another to a head on collision while trying to pass a truck.

I decided to try and just let go of things and not stress over what seems so important. Life is so short and for some even shorter. We don't know when we'll be taken. So, I leave it in the hands of a higher power to help me make the right decisions. I don't dwell on things that I cannot fix or control.

GS, some artists are cartoonists, others more realists. You do what you're good at and if you can make a living doing what you enjoy, you're ahead of the game.

Thanks so much and thanks again to everyone for their help, suggestions and good wishes. Tomorrow I'm sending off the first batch of samples to the caribbean papers. My mood elevates and crashes so often lately, but I'm doing my best to power through it. I haven't gotten to see the dr yet, I was to go to the clinic yesterday (personally I feel more comfortable seeing someone I don't have a personal history with, esp if I'm going to be overly emotional - it's not just the lack of work that's hurting me, but it feels like it's the root of all of it.)

I'm going to try to go tonight when the after hours clinic opens up.

Here's the thing, back to this thread topic, I don't feel like I know how to pray my prayers properly. I won't lie part of me feels like I did something wrong and everything fell apart, so I'm hesitant to pray the prayers I've been using. I understand the argument can be made that it's supposed to have happened this way for whatever reason, but it hurts so much and that hurt really sucks. Right now I just want some sun to shine on me, even if it's just a temporary fix something positive and nice to help get me through the pain and help keep me enthusiastic about fighting on you know? Every night I ask God to take it in His hands and carry it for me, I ask Him to help me let go but each day it doesn't feel any different. Maybe it's not supposed to but I sure want some kind of easement.
