I'm doing the counting too...adding with fingers and toes job pension income and social security. Plus taking more interest in my freelancing business that took on new life since I discovered how to market online with blogs and mastermind groups, etc.

I don't think I want to wait for 62 to come along...Laurel have you ever heard of Virtual Assistants or affiliate marketing? Affiliate marketer Lynn Terry (out of Tennessee - www.clicknewz.com) and Sydni Hart http://www.eatova.com/ are a couple examples of women I've networked with online who are doing a good business for themselves online. Something you could start part-time while you're working in your job and continue when you move to J.A. or whatever else you do down the road

Hey Ladies

All this talk about retirement and moving to Jamaica! Sounds like you ladies have got everything planned!

(((QK))) I brought my current car brand new and paid cash, have not had a car payment in over 11 years, and honestly dont want to deal with that again. I would love to be able to find me a nice/dependable used car. That will probably have to be the route I go when the time comes. I am very hard on cars. A male friend once told me I need to drive a tank!

If you "wait" for this and "wait" for that there will always be a more attractive figure out there to "wait" for, factor in the inflation rate while you are WAITING, and you are almost back to square zero anyway.

When I retired my counselor explained to me that once you take out the factors involved in GOING TO WORK 5 days out of the week, factor in my 3% raise every year (working teachers only get 2% GO FIGURE), I will be right back at my normal pay in two more years AT THE HOUSE.

You will <span style="font-size: 20pt">Never get RICH, AHEAD, BE "ALRIGHT", or whatever this dream is you have tied up in your head, working ANY normal wage earning job in AMerica. </span>

Didn't Farrah, Michael,Walter, the Oxy Clean man, show you anything recently.....now you are much younger than myself, and no doubt you do need to work a little longer, but these plans of being damn near 70 before you start to really enjoy your life drive me to distraction!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's a leap of faith, no doubt, and adjustment, no doubt. I just learned recently that I have NO DENTAL INSURANCE. How'd I find out??? Of course after 20 or more years without a cavity, I now have one under the most expensive crown I ever paid for. The deal is the crown will be destroyed in the process, and a NEW ONE must be paid for. When we called the Board of Education to check on my new retired medical coverage, I learned I have NO major medical dental, only PREVENTATIVE (which means the twice a year teeth cleaning ).

It's an adjusment getting paid only once a month at the end of the month. But the gas bill is less (for the car I mean...work was a good little drive to and from every week), utilities more, because I am home all day (used to turn everything off), dry cleaning, less, makeup, less, lunch bills (less sometimes more I like to treat myself).

It's like putting clothes in a washing machine, it all comes out in the wash.

I still say it's the best kept secret around, and I think you should do it while you are still young enough and mobile enough to enjoy it.

Don't wait until you need a Hoverround.

NDG, I kick the crap out of cars! Heavy foot, aggressive. Worse than you, I drive like a MAN... only better.
I love my new used car. Not sure I will ever be ABLE to buy brand new again. I HATED when my baby of 12 years passed on...

Marilyn I work for a health insurance comapany and really a dental plan isn;t much more than a savings plan for your teeth when you add it up.
The amount paid in premiums is usually almost equal to your total coverage maximum.
If you had a $2000 annual benefit max, your employer probably paid most of that in premiums. The diference is if you don't use the dental $$ you lose it. Your best bet is to make yourself a little savings account strictly for dental $$.
I think this may be why you can't buy a self pay dental plan, at least not here in MA.

Mawnin Rootsie! Why you up all night?

The first thing I'm banking on in Jamaica is NO MORTGAGE/RENT. My retirement $$ at 62 will actually be slightly MORE than what I'm making now, with less expenses and less taxes. My smaller pension from my current employer will be enough to pay for my health insurance. I plan on spending summers here with family & friends, but won't keep a residence here.

If I could retire NOW with the $$ I'll make at 62???

The weather here has dried & cooled a bit. It's only 58 as I write this and the humidity has bottomed out. So it's very comfy. The mosquitos still suck tho... And the weekend looks good!!

I actually have a rainy day fund, but I was hoping for a rainy day in Jamaica rather than the dentist chair
