yup, that's one of the cases exactly, I mean to have one of these lists is like owning a jackpot, many gangs will fight for them, people will be dead over them. it's big business, some of the lists are generated here in the US, sometimes also there are a lot of inside jobs at WU and such.

i am glad they caught up with the scammers but yet am saddened that they played on peoples vulnerabilities. As I was reading the article I could not help wonder if they chose Minnesota because of the limited number of jamaicans living there. I then pictured how a Jamaican would have handled the call if their number was dialed ok sarry mi a tek bad ting mek joke

I feel to say this bears repeating.

Also, that not every call for help is a scam.

There are ways to tell and you can attach strings.

This is not to say also that many visitors who want to be down very badly don't get taken, because lord knows and especially from reading this thread you see it.

The funniest call I ever got was a win from the lotto. But to get the winning I had to pay the tax. When I said take the tax from the winnings the call 'dropped' until he could try and figure out a work around. I did manage to figure out who it was, and karma did come around.

Fact is, one of my friend's phone got lifted, in Mobay, which is notorious for running scams. In fact, I would lay a bet that the odds are the scammer probably bought me a few drinks at the club in the past lol.

There was a ring that had been broken up recently, LARGE sums of money were being WU'd...I'll have to look for the article. </div></div>

Yeah I posted an article about it in GD, which was summarily ignored and dropped off the radar. They hit Memphis hard with this one.

These stories are sad and eerily entertaining at the same time. I have been pretty blessed not to be hit up with the stories. I like to think that I tend to gravitate toward good people.

On the other hand, my sister was almost taken. She is not a regular to Jamaica, and finds it very difficult to understand Jamaicans even speaking Queens English. Needless to say, she got involved briefly with a police officer in Jamaica. When he found out how comfortable I was with Jamaica, the dialect and the runnings, he clammed up around me...wouldn't say more than three words at any given time.

Well, his &quot;sister&quot; called my sister to tell her that she was his wife in Jamaica and she was so tired of all these women in her husband's life. Then, a week later she called back stating that she was trying to help her &quot;brother&quot; get rid of a stalker, and just started dialing numbers in his phone. Somehow (still not quite sure how) he managed to explain it all a way...and the &quot;sister&quot; and my sister started talking everyday, with this woman telling my sister that she loves her and has never had a friend like her.

She planned to meet my sister on her next trip to Jamaica and couldn't wait for the rest of the family to meet her as well to plan my sister's wedding. (She magically didn't show up after she found out that I was coming along for the ride. Yep I cussed her and asked her since when Jamaican woman beg friend...but my sister wanted to believe her &quot;Officer of the Law&quot. During one of the phone calls, she called distraught stating that she was having female problems and needed...now get this one...US $400 for a hysterectomy. A full hysterectomy for $400 US? Wow!

My hysterectomy here in the States was upward of $14,000. Luckily she asked for so little because it finally set off warning bells for my sister. I still don't know how much they managed to take her for (if anything) between the two of them calling daily...because she won't divulge any info.

abu's godmother and some of my other friends went to jamaica for my birthday

on the flight she met a man from kingston

she landed in montego bay and he went on to kingston

the next day he was in montego bay

oh my goodness he was &quot;rough&quot; rough talking and rough looking

she gazed at him with eyes of love

he then proceeded to join our vacation (was supposed to be a girl trip)

the last day we asked her if she could join us for breakfast (she said not without andrew :rolleyes)

the &quot;girls&quot; leave jamaica and return to the respective homes

a few weeks later - ring ring

guess who's here abu's godmother said &quot;andrew&quot; - he &quot;walked&quot; over the border from canada - where he was a roadie for a reggae artist

he moves in with her

of course he can't work - no visa

so he resorts to selling drugs

and proceeds to live with her for almost 2 years

when she gets herpes she realizes that she's not the only one

and then she gets to meet his new baby

i don't understand how women can take themselves through this &quot;stuff&quot;
