Tuesday we were supposed to go to Ochie. But after breakfast we decided it was too hot to make the effort. The most we could manage was to lay on the beach all day.

My brother stops by to wash and clean the car. He also searched for the car battery. I had given up hope on the battery and figured I would go to the mall and see if they had my battery type and then decide if I was willing to part with the sure to be exhorbitant rate they would charge.

Turns out I didn't have to...my brother found the battery under the car seat. I felt like he had found a bag of money and given it to me.

Now I can really enjoy the rest of my vacation.

One day I suggested we try The Pelican restaurant. I always heard rave reviews on this place and since it was just a few doors down, it was time for me to try it.

I was surprised to find inside looked like a typical American Diner, complete with vinyl covered booths. The food and the service was good.



The fried dumplins were done just right.

The following day, we were supposed to go Portland. Again, sun drunk we, and nobody felt like going.

A co-worker of mine was scheduled to arrive in Mobay that same day. He asked for beach suggestions. Of course I steered him to Dr's Cave. He was travelling with 21 family members. I told him I would try to stop by and say hello at some point during the day.

Since we were too lazy to drive to Portland, I decided I would go and check my co-worker. His family was hilarious....I spent the entire day with them. They left me on the beach. I was too lazy to get up and leave when they headed back.

Pepper, first I would like to thank you for taking me not only back to Jamaica but also to my hometown. I am grateful to be able to see familiar faces and also my friend, Salt.

Now with that out of the way, yuh wrang fi put up dem food picture dem. Mi nuh eat nuttin decent from mawning and mi hungry yuh si. Mi diss eat one cawn dat mi carry back from MG's mommy cottage last night and it nat cutting it.

Thursday is Independence day. I don't even remember what we had planned, but that morning noboby felt like doing a thing. I have a few more people I haven't seen, so I decide to check on some friends and relatives that live in the Mobay.

First stop, a family friend. We spent the late morning hours catching up and chatting away. She always has good stories to tell.






Next up, my oldest living relative. She was always one of my favorites when I was a little girl.



Her husband is 92. I asked what was his secret to looking so good at his age. He said 'well every now and then I have a red stripe, I think that's what keeps me going'.



We spent a lovely afternoon catching up.

I have another cousin that lives right across the street from my oldest relative. I ask if they think she is home today. Yes, she is home because of the holiday.

Another couple of lazy hours are spent laughing and talking.

One of my brothers calls to let me know he is in Mobay. We had plans to meet on Saturday, but was giving me a shout since he was in town. We agree to meet for dinner.

On the way downtown, I run into my brother <span style="font-style: italic">(wearing yet another pink shirt)</span>. We all meet up for dinner. I keep mentioning the pink shirts because this particular brother is a mr tough guy, one of those strong silent types. If having a conversation, his contributions consists of 'yes', 'ok', 'hmmm', 'cool'. Not the guy I would expect to be seen sporting pink.

My sister has a couple videos from the independence day festivities in Mobay. I have to see if I can get them from her.

By Friday we were laughing at our well thought out plans. We didn't even bother to discuss going to Westmoreland. That day we decided to go back up to country. Back to Somerton.

We didn't go straight to Somerton. We stopped here and there along the way.

We saw relatives in Adelphi.




...and an uncle in Windsor. This uncle is approaching 70. I asked him what was the secret to his youthful appearance. He said he makes sure to take good care of his body and get plenty of rest. Looks like its working.
