His wife sat with me at the end of dinner and we chatted a bit. They had been there for more than 30 years she said...originally just a food stand. Very quiet and unassuming woman.

I didnt take pix insie only b/c there were many couples that night and it would have been intrusive to have flash go off while they were eating.

I think alot of those wooden houses are from a long time past b/c where there were new houses going up or newer houses that what I was observing, they were made out of concrete.

Kanopi said they have no issues with wood rot - I didnt think to ask why at the time - so there must be something we are missing about the wood and their rainy air.

Personally, I dont like concrete houses. I understand why they are necessary but I will never like the look of them over wood. I love would buildings. And the ambience that the wood creates against the flora lushness just cannot be beat.


The trade off for Portland getting all that rain and not you is how much hurricane catch them....We took a drive thru Long Bay one day and there are still many sopts that have not recovered from the last one including the road

Man, I am starting to blush at the compliments I am really happy ppl are enjoying my report and not yawning thru it

I wish I was better at changing my camera settings because to capture the ligh that bounces across ppl and things better than I have would have been truly lovely for me. Portland goes from clouy to brightly sunny in no time flat.

one think with Pirtland too if you notice the house that have grill that they rust easy..was told its because of the salt from the sea

I agree.....and if you take the little boat and go to the falls its nice especially to have that water beat down on you

That would be the &quot;hidden&quot; falls, right? I went there while on my trip and it was beautiful (I haven't posted those pics as yet).

Up early at 7:30am. Going to bed early paid off

Head down for breakfast at Ivanhoe's dinin roon

I had French Toast scrambled eggs and orange juice. Their French Toast was fabulous. I had it for breakfast every day I was there.

The day was looking clouy again and I woner how much it will clear up by time we get there....



The annoying Italian couple was up and at it ... well is only the husband was annoying and the wife .
He was still going on about the price of their tour or the day. I mean the guide came in and broke down every one of his costs and this guy was still complaining but they were going nonethless.

It is hard to have conversations with the other guests since the ones staying here don’t speak English very well including the annoying Italian. His wife would smile shyly at me all the time but that was the extent of the interaction.

B arrived right on time 9am to take me to the Texaco station in Buff Bay to meet the tour bus. I was really concerned about how long it would take again since he kept insisting it was a 20 min drive when it took nearly 40 mins the day before.

We get into Hope Bay and I point out that it is 9:30am…..was he gonna guarantee that it takes less than 15mins into Buff Bay from this point??? A look of panic came cross his face and his “yeah man” wasn’t as solid. But he did pick up speed.

The roads are incredibly windy so going above 50km just isnt possible. It is only 28km to Buff Bay but the twists and turns will slow you down.


We get into Buff Bay before the 9:45am deadline….B waits with me……no bus. I get a call from the tour agent and she says the bus is on its way.
We laughed that she probably told me 9:45am to make sure I get there on time.








No Problem. We get out the car and stand up against a wall. Of course this is JA so somebody is lyming about as well. B chats to enough ppl that pass by since he knows everybody.

It was this church stone wall we leaned up aganinst waiting for the bus to come




10:05am rolls around and still no bus. I start to get worried that maybe I got the meeting place wrong….I call the tour company and she says she will call the driver to see where the bus is at. Turns out that this time he is the one running late…..The bus arrived about 10:20am. I get on the bus and it is packed with tourists from many hotels.

Off I go
