Well I cheated. I called a friend in the States and asked her what she thought and then ran it pass my friends I was with in Portie A. They agreed with the amount too so that is what I gave himn He seemed alright with it becuase he continued to talk to me for the remainder of my time there </div></div>

I have ,for years, figured--kinda $50 for half a day and !00 for full-plus fuel and nesecities, depending on friend or not/effort required on their part ,etc. but really don't know whats fair--and always dread that look of ...disappointment?? or what ever. Just need to have WADS of dollars so I can take care of everybody!!

that LOOK I was trying to avoid.

Since it was my rental car/insurance and not his car that he was using and I paid for food and drinks throughout the day, plus entry fees to whereever we went - this had to factor into the cost. So I gave him approx 100USD for 4 days and he was happy with it.

It is a delicate balance. I dont want to offend b/c I didnt compensate for someone's time but I cant throw money to the wind either. He still wanted to drive me around afterwards and insisted I keep in touch once I got home, so I think I did good.

I bought that suticase on the spur of the moment on another trip last year because I ran out of room So I only got the one and now I want to get the set. I couldnt have bought the whole set on my business trip b/c then I woulnt have managed to get it all home Good thing is the dept store I bought it in in Toronto is here in my home town as well.

And I got it on sale too

I do not deal with the money transactions ... not at all ~

all these years of Bigga's road side chicken - NO CLUE what we pay.

we had our driver neighbor BareFoot Sonny drive the rental on a FULL day trip out - not sure what he got paid. Not Tourist rates, but he makes sure they are paid FAIR (along with food and soda)

the ONE time I did handle the transportation rates (transport in exchange for carried items) ... YIKES!!! High Tourist Rate was being charged (my 'exchange' soon ran out) ... he stepped in and took over - and paid the Famblee Rate.

I am glad you shared what you paid ... good to know - that is the range I had in mind ~

I normally dont have to consider the money thing either b/c I am always with me family. So this was tough for me to figure out but glad I had to.

I just thought about what are his &quot;costs&quot; and realized he didnt really have any other than his personal time he chose to give up.

He got to park his car and drive mine, so no wear n tear, insurance or gas on his part. PLus he had the added benefit of using the car during the off time when I was at the hotel or off doing something that lasted a few hours. He could use the car to do his errands an visit his kids. I dint care.

so I think for strictly &quot;labour&quot; costs 100USD was good.

Got up mid morning – I find I sleep in a bit later at Ivanhoe’s because the bed is actually comfortable and the curtains block the sun coming in. I tend to follow the sun sleepwise so this allowed me to get a bit more rest than before.

B gets be of course this morning. I wanted to wonder thru the Musgrave market and the rest of the town today. But once I was outside for a bit, I realized the hot sun was gonna kill me off if I walked around town.

I choose only to do the market and that was well hot enough inside for me. By time I came out I was drenched in sweat and bee-lined to the A/C car. B was just gonna have to suffer in the cold while I cooled off..

Like mentioned earlier the market was hot and too crowded at the time With the renovations taking place and some areas blocked off, all the vendors were sqeezed into smaller areas. I didn’t feel comfortable taking pictures inside because quite frankly everyone is on you the moment you walk in. Maybe once the renos are done it will be better to return. Normally I love markets but this one will go on the re-visit list until another time.




I decide to see the
Folly Ruins instead since I couldn’t take walking up and down today..
The cool breeze around the ruins was refreshing. And for some reason there were nuff goats lollygagging around as well. Good to have some company I guess. Monkey Island is just off the shore and I noticed that there is some kind of sand barge that is shallow enough for you to walk from shore to shore. I mention this to C the following day and we planned to come back and give it a try.

chain link fence has been establsihed aroun the ruins now so it is hard to get pictures without the fence in view.

Navy Island which I think I referred to as Monkey Island earlier by accident. You cant see in the pix but you can walk from shore to island further up the way



Since the rain didn’t come today as expected and the temp kept soaring I went in search of water…..We head to the Blue Lagoon

Nuff vendors are lined up along the entrance driveway and you have to keep your head about you. B got angry on a few occasions but I couldn’t figure out why. I guess one of the scams is that they set up at the entrance way and stop cars going down, telling them that an entrance fee is due. Since the area is technically closed there is no such thing. :Whatever:

I couldn’t make out the quarrels between B and a few others at the time so he explained what was going on later.

I wonder around and of course the vendors rush me once B is more than 6 feet away. Only one did approach me without being overwhelming: Peter. He is a older gentleman that has been rafting for a while now in the Lagoon. He pulls me from the others and says quietly to me , “are you Jamaican?” I say, “my parents are” and he responds “then you are one of us then”
-He gives me a get a deal on the ride 2500JMD and again whispers it to me because he doesn’t want the European tourists to overhear the price he is giving me. I look a B and he nods that it is alright, so off I go.

This is the old restaurant that was destroyed by the hurricane many years ago. Of course there is much talk of it being restored but I see no sign of said activity

sounds like he would have been satisfied just being in your company. But yep, you did good by him. Again, only repeating what so many others have said over and over, this is one of the best reports posted! I honestly don't want it to end Ms. Nylah.

This place looks like the structure at the end of the movie the Mighty Quinn. I would love to see this one day.
