-I slept really well in spite of a few nasty bug bites.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, I should have kept the windows shut All the chirping and jungle noises were so soothing but not the ant bites

I get dressed having no clue what time of the day it is. I make my way down to the common area guessing that it was early afternoon. I arrive I am the first of the girls to be awake!! It turns out it is only 9:50am. I find I dont sleep late in JA no matter how late I go to bed.

-Micheal and Carla start to throw out ideas for outings for the day. Me and the german couple decide to go into town for breakfast. The French girls and American girls decide to kayak to monkey island and then we were all going to meet up and go to Reach Falls for the day.
We all set out in our different directions. The german couple had eaten at Anna Banana’s the day before and really enjoyed the meal, so we decided to head there.

Unfortunately even at 10:00am in the morning, they weren’t set up for breakfast……

So off the went into the town of Port Antonio to find another place that was open…..and serving breakfast.

We went to a little restaurant inside the <span style="font-weight: bold">Port Antonio Mall </span>located towards the back of the mall. I cant remember the name of the restaurant but it is owned by an European woman and her Jamaican husband.

They weren’t ready for customers yet but they scrambled to serve us breakfast which was just fantastic because we were all famished by this point.
We order breakfast and I had scrambled eggs and bacon with fresh orange juice.

Breakfast was really good for each of us.

The german couple had cheese omelettes that they both polished off. We took our time eating and getting to know each other.
Meanwhile, as we were eating breakfast the
sky decided to opened up.

A torrential downpour soaked the town.

By time we finished breakfast it was still raining heavily so we ordered lattes and kept chatting. (Wikkid lattes BTW)

Finally the rain let up and we head back to the villa.

The day was overcast and dark so the pix arent too bright.

Hey JaJewel! It won't be high season.One of my reason to go would be to visit Rob and Marshall from the sled dog team and they'll be up here and Iditarod till almost April. My favorite time to come is May when I really start getting cabin fever and it's still snowing here! When I do start to make plans I will give you a holler!

DeMontavain Hotel (I think I spelled it right)

We went to Karaoke night later on in the week at this hotel and had a blasy I have videos of that later to post

Ivanhoe Guesthouse, which I also stayed in, is around the corner

Rain, rain, go a way....

The old houses in Port A have so much character. It is too bad they have not been restored.

I mean, look at these houses!! If walls could talk imagine the stories they could tell.

This is the JDF compound that use to be the first hotel in Port A. I tihnk it was also considered the biggest on the island...something like 400 rooms. Errol Flynn of course was the original owner and builder.

btw....you right in Drapers and didn't stop and visit with Kurlie's cousin Culture? he's quite a character.

How sad about the buildings. Your pictures of them are wonderful. Hopefully some day salvage can happen and new pics will show improvement, but I know that's hardly likely.

Yes, I did read Pirate's Daugther before I got to Portie. It creates a neat perspective to the place around you when you have the context of such stories in your mind.

While I was there I was reading the Book of Night Women while I was there. Man that was powerful to me because you are reading about the brutality slavery amidst the beauty of the island....That played tricks with my mind in some ways.

I didnt get a chance to visit with Culture but I did get to visit with some of Kurlie's other family members

Awww thanks Nanook! I have to pretend to work soon but I will post for a little bit.

I was smart and made notes while on vacation so alot of it is just cut n paste instead of re-working things in my mind all over again.

I tend to mix up time lines badly so I am glad I had my laptop with me to jot down my activities.
