we didn't need to check out til noon the next morning so we sat straggled...hoping and wishing for the weather to clear enough for a volcano view.













and it was not to be. what a shame the weather wasn't more cooperative for us here, thank god for birds.

so we reluctantly left Arenal and La Fortuna on the 2 1/2 hour trek it would take us to get back to Alejuela for our last night.

the streams were incredibly swollen and beautiful on our journey and the fog was seriously thick up in the mountain passes.





we made it Alejuela but once again, the intown traffic snarled us...we finally pulled over after passing the same cop 3 times...asked directions. between he and his other buddies, we were really struggling with the language to the point where one of them finally motioned us to follow them in the car and they led us to our hotel. muchas muchas gracias. [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/notworthy.gif[/img]

back at the Buena Vista, we asked for a 4am wakeup call and just relaxed for the evening.

they have a small 15 min hiking trail thru the coffee plantation here.

i'm not a fan of heights either, have no interest in any amusement park rides, you'd not get me on the BABY rollercoaster never, i had a huge fear of flying up until fairly recently. I'll admit my first few steps on the hanging bridges were shaky. They swayed...and you could feel the bounce as you stepped...kinda creepy. BUT, i just focused on the treetops and views. I was so intent on seeing everything i could see...and not turning back like a baby, that i eventually overcame the height thing. Nature wins every time. to give you an idea of some of the heights tho...

bought a new camera for this trip...which i really should have practiced more with. I'm pleased with the closeups of the critters i was able to get, which is why i bought it. the landscapes...well...next time.

I'd like to return to Costa rica and try a couple other areas. One being one of the most diverse areas on the planet known as the Osa Peninsula. That and the Carib side of CR, Puerto Viejo i hear is nice.
