my son and i have a very open relationship

i know i talk with him about things that average parents might skirm discussing

but it's just him and i

and i work real hard to keep the lines of communication open

so i handed him the memory bag

My brother is adopted and found his birth mother a few years back. There was always enough information for him to find her and my parents had done so, but he was salty about being given up for a long time. It had to wait until he was ready.

They talked every week for a year and then it just stopped. His mother and him look like twins. Somehow he really looka like his father too. The father refused to speak with him even all now, and I think that might have been what broke things down.

abu opened the memory bag

and we laughed at the very small baby clothes

he looked at the picture of his birth mother and brother - full brother

he read the letter

he had seen all of this before - but he hadn't seen it since we moved - so he hadn't seen it in about 5 years - he was 10 years old then

and he saw the gift certificate with the entire name on it - and asked me about the spelling since it was in cursive - and who's name was it - i told him of course

he was like - WOW mom - i'm so glad you found this

he took the letter in his room to read again

and then came out - and told me

he had googled and searched and found his brother on facebook - birth mom's booty shot, and grandmother's name and address via google

he had tried to send a heartfelt message to his brother - but that account was not receiving messages

i told abu - i think we need to write a letter with some pictures - your brother may not know about you - and it may be hard on him to just have you suddenly appear

i inboxed birth mom asking if she wanted to see some pictures

and since no message went with the friend request - i let it stand

while abu gazed at his brother's picture

he waited and waited for a response to his friend request

the first thing out of abu's mouth each morning - mom - you know what i'm thinking?

what son? my brother didn't accept my friend request

and i didn't hear from birth mother either and grandma doesn't have an account

but i called the telephone number i found on-line

a lady answered - i asked her if i could talk to (insert brother's name) ?

she said he wasn't available right then - whose calling?

so i told her my name

by this time i know i'm not in control of this anymore

and abu starts pacing . . .
