Believe it or not - just a couple hours ago I heard this woman call into the Wendy William's show.

This was a genuine call.

A Jamaican woman here in NY - Brooklyn and she's calling looking for help/direction.

She's here illegally.

Her teenage son is being sexually abused by his teacher AND - <span style="font-weight: bold">AND by this teacher's HUSBAND as well</span>!

She says she doesn't know what to do - how to approach authorities for fear of immigration / being deported.

Wendy told her straight up - YOU put yourself in this position and the abusers have you over a barrel.

Now - we all know Wendy William's a pretty much an idiot but, she's totally right.

What gets me, is that the mother says she doesn't know what to do.

I mean - really - how <span style="font-weight: bold">MUCH </span>do you need to sacrifice to stay in this country? Is sacrificing her child worth it?

Mek sure yuh pay de taxes and blah blah. When she come of age at least she wi have dat. If im did buy it wid a fake SS den im ooda did lose it aready. Leaving it empty would not have been an option.

On de adda hand. If yuh status so uncertain, why would you make such an investment in a country whe might kick yuh out at any minute? I'on get it...

Jazz - you can't tell people that the popo aren't interested in your status.

Girl in Maryland and Virginia, when you're arrested - they check your status. Not only is this a quietly growing agenda from state to state, they're trying to push it in cases of just reasonable suspicion and also just as a basic check - also trying to be pushed in hospitals as law.

I think they're trying to push that same thing here in NY but I'm not sure.

It was sad evano - really sad to hear.

And you could tell this was a big grown woman too - nat nuh likkle foo foo young gyal. She was grown. Sounded in her 40's - I couldn't believe she had no common sense.

Anyway - the segment went on &amp; on and eventually, ended with the station culling immigration atty info for her and various social service agencies in NY.

It does not matter how illegal she is it is not her fault.
It only becomes her fault if she gets the proper advice and does not take it.

For one thing she would not be deported immediately. All she had to do was to report the matter and get an Immigration lawyer to watch over her (and her child if he is illegal) interests.

This is another case of blaming the victim.

Hey Tuffy – I’m not sure if you’re responding to me alone to various other posters …

Anyway – I’m not saying it’s her fault that the child is being abused – of course not.

I AM saying it’s her fault that he’s <span style="font-weight: bold">STILL </span>being abused.

She has it within her power to get help / put a stop to it / raise the alarm / etc.

As I said – Wendy’s kind of an idiot so I’m not looking to her for any substantive answers on this issue – she’s a radio personality / talk show host / entertainer. NOT the place or person to be getting proper advice from on this topic – kinda sad that the woman felt she had to turn to Wendy Williams of all people but when you’re dazed and confused, you do can anything sometimes.

The aspect of Wendy’s comment that I feel was correct, was that the POSITION that the woman is in – that of feeling like she can’t go to any authorities for fear of deportation – is indeed, a position of her own making. I sure as heck will blame her for that.

She is a MOTHER – she shouldn’t NEED “advice” as to when/how to stop her child from being abused for fear of her immigration status.
