All fair points from a global perspective... Cuba/ US relationship is irrelevant so is the 12 million undoccumented workers. These wont affect me....

A more pressing issue is food / health security in Subsahara Africa.. Much more will flow from this issue.. But this is not relevant to the Irish President of the United States....

These wont affect me....</div></div> It most certainly will 11 Million Cubans + 12 Million Aliens add up to many more consumers who can, travel, bank and trade freely. Since essentially these are foreigners the net effect will be any increase in investment, trade and travel worldwide.

Many are undocumented not, holding bank accounts, cannot travel freely, cannot buy a house <span style="font-style: italic">(and/or hope to keep it see topic from 2 days ago)</span>, live with the threat of being deported, have to take menial jobs below their pay grade, etc.

I am not even saying that they should be granted amnesty, even deporting them, if it can be accomplished quickly and efficiently will cause an up tick in the economy. In a stalemate everyone loses, eventually as the economy worsens immigrants legal and illegal will be more maligned. Folks will be drawn to various sides and if the illegal alien is participating in the economy now he/she might be less willing or less able to do so in an atmosphere of confrontation. In the Great Depression third generation Mexicans born and raised in Southern Indiana were shipped off to the Mexican Border. Many Mexicans living along the Brownsville Texas/Mexican Border are descended from these Depression Deportees.

But I am not saying it is good to take each of these in isolation I think, the USA should drop the hammer on Mexico as well, force the Mexican Government to take more responsibility for the welfare of its own Citizens.
