Officials at Sangster doing drug search/test on Travelers?!

I found this on "Trip Advisor". I'm very skeptical of things like this but the poster sounds honest enough. What are the police at Sangster thinking?

Can anyone shed some light on this? I know that this is the place to come to get the REAL answers.

The thread is long with plenty of responses. I posted the topic starter only.

I was wondering if anyone else had to go through one of these. We just went through the metal detector and were pulled over by a police office and were taken to a small dirty room. They went through our hand luggage, asked to give a urine sample (my wife was watched by a woman police office) which we couldn't give as we just went to the washroom. We didn't have any drugs or have taken any drugs so we were OK. Just wondering why they ask a 50+ year old couple instead of some other younger people that were waiting in the airport. It looked like a senior office came to see us looked at us, asked a couple of questions and told them it was ok to let us go. What could they do if they found something in our urine? What a way to end your vacation.

nothing to be skeptical about - I have been thru far worse with the narcotics police a the airport.... [censored] that at the time made me swear I would never return to JA again.

i did not know they could do that ..

i know sometimes governments declare some people &quot;persona non grata&quot; ..
but just to ask you not to come back ..

random testing it happens everywhere now a days,just ask Ken Boothe although to be honest I dont know why the urine sample was taken if in fact this story actualy happened

yup, singled me out and put me and my brother (since he was travelling with me) thru hell. I was semi-hysterical by the end of it...Threatening to lock me in jail for next 36 hours without cause because they can, and a whole bunch of other -ish I aint gonna type out here. At 2 in the morning when they decided I wasnt a threat to national security they backed off..... My only crime at the time was that I came there to bury a family member.

IMO, this couple got of lightly if all they asked for was a urine sample.

I think any country can decide you are persona non grata if they have evidence or reasonable suspicion that you are up to something. It is a privilege and not a right to enter another country, so I would assume it is perfectly legal.

to check fi any abnormalities in di urine...people secrete drugs in dem various cavities not to mention swallow dem...even wid di agents dem put di drugs een, changes in chemistry will show up...nuff time dem test an den tek to hospital to xray an wait for normal passage so to speak, if dem tink tings iffy....welcome to the new age of all ages doing illegalities....if people neva go yaad go mek a market fi di drugs, well den, noone would haffi meet dis...

Any country can deny you entry. In that case it is the airline's responsibility to send you back to where you came from on the first availble flight. You are deemed an &quot;InAd&quot; or an Inadmissible Passenger. The airline usually uses up your return ticket to do it. If you don't have one, they pay for it and then you pay them back later.

However if you are suspected of committing a crime (ex. carrying drugs into the country) then they can detain you and trial you on their soil.

I just dont know why this couple's story is surprising in this day and age especially since it is a mild one.

If the airport officials dont do drug search/test on Travelers who exactly should they be testing?

not condoning it, just asking why you are surprised <span style="font-weight: bold">people</span> can be treated this way.
