check the joke, when I *had* to go back to JA I buck in the airport with the same narco policeman - imagine he recognized me . Since he was staring me down, me and my brazen self went over and asked if if he felt like interrogating me again ( Figured, I was gonna be in control this time around and just get this crap over with. )

The man had the nerve to look me up and down and say, "naah mi cyaan bodda wid alla dat, mi wan fi tek yuh pon wan date instead".

The search in itself is not surprising.
What I find surprising is the URINE TEST. I have never heard of any country doing a URINE TEST.
Ok, hypothetical situation...... they do a urine test and you show positive.....now what? This is enough evidence of what? That you used drugs? Used drugs in what jurisdiction(country)? Ganja stays in a persons system for up to 30 days. A person coud have smoked ganja before his trip to Jamaica and show positive on a pee test and have never broken Jamaica law....anyone get my point?

Not only that but...some folks up here and in some states in the U.S. can legally smoke ganja to aid them with some ailment or the other as long as they have a doctors note. So it is possible for someone to take a urine test in Jamaica and test positive <span style="font-weight: bold">without breaking any law, anywhere</span>.

Milo, that's a good point....On another note, why would they want to scare away tourist in the current economic crisis?
If the story is true it reeks of stupidity and there is no reason not to believe that this situation didn't happen.

What's this? Payback for Bush man's patriot act? I thought this was Jamaica not Cuba or god forbid the USA! Sign a precondition statement? Curious as how a urine test can detect if you are a mule or not? How is that going to show up in your bodily fluids?

it isnt about whether you are a USER but if you are TRANSPORTING drugs. If you have ingested drug packets either internally or placed them in a body cavity then the urine test will pick up the drugs being secreted in small amounts into your system.

you think they care about whether you smoked something while on the island? they are trying to prevent the import and export of illegal drugs.

and u think middle-aged white couple never do such things?

I got targeted because of what I look like: to them
I didnt look a black American,
I didnt look Jamaican,
therefore I MUST be a black
British woman who is a drug
e mule. That is their experience.

Only problem is I have a Canadian passport and I am 20 yrs older than they suspected me to be. That still didnt stop them from humiliating me. So yes, they urine test is mild compared to what I went thru.

And since drug searches are common assault why are they going to ease up just because of the economy?

<span style="font-weight: bold">Much of Britain's cocaine comes from Jamaica</span>

New tactics in the battle to stop Jamaican cocaine smugglers entering the UK are helping to secure rocketing seizures in the Caribbean country.
Joint efforts by the British and Jamaican authorities include swabs being used to detect minute traces of cocaine on the skin of drug mules before they board flights to the UK.

<span style="font-weight: bold">On some flights earlier this year, it was estimated as many as 10% of passengers from Jamaica were drug mules</span>, people who had swallowed bags of cocaine usually at the behest of gangsters.


Jamaican gangsters set up the shipments

The Jamaican authorities said as much as 30kg (66lb) of cocaine was being smuggled on every flight.

But figures released by Customs and Excise on Thursday show the new detection methods appear to be deterring the traffickers.

Cocaine swallowers can carry half a kilo of the drug in their stomachs wrapped in up to 100 packets.

Dealers in Jamaica are happy to flood aircraft with couriers on the basis that if some are caught, others will evade detection.

<span style="font-weight: bold">But after four months of the swabs and <span style="font-style: italic">other new technology,</span> the number of drug mules getting through on this smuggling route is estimated to have dropped by a third.</span>

the problem with those damn swabs is that if prior to you entering the airport you have touched any surface with drug residual - inside a public taxi or the airline ticket counter - you will test positive for drug residual even if you are not carrying.
