Better than baseball what we need in Jamaica is Universal Broadband so that all Jamaicans will get a voice on the Internet. I am really so over Jamaicans who have run away from home talking for, on behalf of, on the full of and 24/7 365 Days a year for the 2.6 Million Souls still living on the Rock.

I think we need to push for full access to sane Jamaica from the Imposed Morals of <span style="font-size: 14pt">us</span> the departed!

American Baseball has been played in Jamaica, especially in Church Summer School!
This like saying don't put Computers in every school because Jamaicans have no history of using Computers on such a scale.
Don't introduce Bob Sled because that will destroy Paradise.

The argument as I see it was a theoretical reasoning about whether it would be possible to introduce Baseball in Jamaica. It has quickly as usual descended into one of judging intent and impugning ulterior motives.

from personal experience i know yutes used to love to play baseball in j-a; not the kind with bat and ball, just a ball and you hit the ball with your hand and run the bases...and to get you out the ball has to hit you rather than the person guarding the base...
so they already have the concept...
i don't see how one more sport could hurt...especially how basketball became so popular over the last 10-20 years inna yaad; i think it's even surpassed cricket in popularity...

here is a case of Yanki hegmony.... Jamaicans have established organisation that grows... Our success at atheletics is based on the fact we have home grown coaches. Our culture evolves to wards the more elegant games of cricket rather than the simplistic crudity that is base ball....Cricket connects us to Pakistan and India Banglagdesh and Kenya and South Africa ? what would baseball do USA .. We need more of that.. where can we find more markets for our goods ? this evangailism that so manny propotents of minority sports in the states have is ego driven and as offensive as a Mormon trying to convert a Jamaican...

After starting this discussion with a simple question of why baseball is not popular, I was amazed at the contoversy it caused. I was also amazed at the many different directions it took. I was going to sit back and continue to read the posts and saw no need to reply. I will continue to say that in no way, shape, or form, was it my intention to disrespect, or impose any beliefs upon anyone what so ever.

I respect your coaches, athletes and your culture. Actually not just yours but coaches and athletes in general as long as they are civil, act professionally and love their sport. I also respect that you believe that cricket is a more elegant game, this is your oppinion. I, did not denounce any sport. But... for you to state &quot;the simplistic crudity that is base ball....&quot;, and for me not to defend the sport that I like would be un-just. I will not put down your sport, but I will ask you this.

If a descision needed to be made on the playing field, and it was decided by &quot;Rock-Scissors-Paper Democracy&quot; would this be considered simplistic?

Or if a sport had originally gained popularity due to the importance of gambling associated with it, would that be considered crude?

really repect.. I see... lets see we beat the hell out of the US at the Olympics suddenly we have a baseball promotion on ????? Divert our attention with flashy commercialism.. like a crack dealer, make your profit on the re-up..... .While attracting our young established tradtional sports thus weakening our bases.. Thus we have to compete behind them from a postion of weakness...

Personally I love tele-evangalists who beams their slickly produced drivel to us third worlders with its promises of easy assured paradise... And always they say they respect traditions... Let us always welcome more yanki missionaries be they baseball, mormons,socialists.. we jamaicans need more of them....

wow a baseball promotion... I wish I had the type of influence whether it be baseball of more important issues. Yes you beat not only us but other countries in the olympics. which is proof of an individuals superior athletic ability in a specific event. and those individuals were and are recognized, rightfully so. Unfortunatly, a simple question has put you on the defense or maybe even on the edge of being insecure.

Dam right I am insecure... when I visual the military, cultural hegmongy of the yanki... It was the missionaries that came first.. then the slave traders then the colonialist.... It was teh traders that were the agents of the opressors, the missionaries who were the purveyors of the myth of the backward culture. Yep they called Afican wrestling pagan worship.. Why then introduce an alien culture....??????
