yeah but it is nonsense...locks was not even an original precept of the movement...it gained popularity later on...
some of those same so-called ras don't even know who leonard howell is or pinnacle or mau mau...

it is not the locks that make the ras but the heart...locks is just the fullness;

but this is not about locks...it's about why they're pushing the straight hair thing on my black children

Sometimes I wear the African twist, and where I go to get it done the shop is full of African women stylists...still yet, all a dem innah weave an straight hair and naah wear dem beautiful styles...yy?

it's about choice jah yout. i have locks because i swim and run and bike. i have to wash my hair everyday in the summer. that's easier for me. what's good for me might not be good for pamela.

Yuh mad! Granted I haven't been to all corners of Jamaica (I haven't been to Portland or St. Thomas, yet), I have seen precious few women in Jamaica with natural hair, much less in locks. Both women having natural hair that I know, work on the beach, selling jewelry or souvenirs. My daughter and I have often remarked how amazing it is that women in Jamaica are able to maintain perms when the climate is often so humid.

I have done everything to my hair except wear extensions or tracks. I have locks now, as does my daughter. The daughter of a friend mentioned to me about how fast my hair is growing now, and I told her that if she really wanted her hair to grow she should stop perming. She told me that NO girls at her high school wear locks, and that if a male student wears locks, he has to wear a cap over them. (Do they still think locks have to be dirty?)

I remember growing up in JA they finally let a rasta girl into our high school after years of fighting gainst it...of course it was a browning light skin rasta

then i remember a girl being told she had to pull out her chiney bumps or go home because according to them chiney bumps are the equivalent of wearing rollers defiant me wear two big chiney bump inna mi head front and was immediately told to pull it out

the Seven Day Adventurists made it clear to her that it
would not be in her best interests to continue with that hairstyle.

Some others and I were put out of school for our hair, our shoes and our religion that is why I am never going to tell anyone how to dress, speak or carry themselves.

I have seen white, Chinese, Indian Jamaican discriminated against. Now it anyone who just look gay. I think we must be careful what we do to other human beings in trying to foist our morals on perfect strangers.

How far must we go forward in time...are we going to damn the Egyptians for inventing the pressing comb?

Ty, the maker of Beanie Babies, is introducing two new Ty Girlz dolls named Marvelous Malia and Sweet Sasha.

1 of 2 Although it would be a stretch to say the 12-inch-tall dolls bear a resemblance to the first family's Sasha, 7, and Malia, 10, they appear to be the only African-American dolls in the 30-doll Ty Girlz collection.

There has been no public objection -- or comment of any kind -- from the White House about Ty Inc.'s use of the Obama daughters' names.

When CNN asked a Ty executive whether the Obama girls were the inspiration for the dolls, she hesitated several seconds before answering.
