saw on the front page,smaddy writing on this..neva read past the assertion dat BOB would have to have been there...made me pause really...why would Bob have wanted to be there...Rasta no bizniz eena politrixs etc and Bob stayed far and clear...his one experience was nearly deadly an having not heard the new prez cite any influence from the Caribbean and Reggae in particular, why would Bob be motivated to be there...certainly not because he is seen as some as a celebrity...Bob did not make his decisions r attachments based on that distinction..others call him a celeb...Bob did not ...

so why would Bob have been at Obama's celebration? given his stance wid the Weed of Wisdom and his fight against Babylon which many Ras see the US as epitomizing, why would Bob be at the inauguration of a US president ?

am curious as to others' opionion

Bob most certainly did not stay clear of Politics, in fact most Jamaican Singers do not stay clear of politics they mostly support one side and stay silent when that side is in power and things are going bad.

In later life Bob was very much involved in politics in the wider sense, especially with the struggles in Africa. I don't know if he would have gone, but it was not totally out of his realm.

As to the shooting of Bob I would not put that down to all politics, there were things that happened at the Race Track for instance, Bob was also known to be very kind and at his house where he got shot many folks used to gather there especially on Fridays when Bob was in town to get money.

To the purely Party Political aspect of it when Bob went to Buckingham Palace for instance among his body guards were George Phang and Lip, the Co-Leaders of the Bib Bow Posse from Jones Town who was at war with Red Tony, all of whom would have been at War with Massop and other Labourite Gangs.

So the shooting could have been for any or all of the above reasons.... no one really know.

Bob marley most certainly was into politics,I totally disagree that he was not into politics,he may not have been directly <span style="font-weight: bold">involved </span> in political affairs but most of what he lick out against was to do with the system which was driven by politics.

Bob marley went to africa to celebrate the independence of zimbabwe,he promoted through his music the struggle of african liberation and confronting the social order,...which is all political driven.

For anyone to suggest that he was not into politics is either naive,or totally barmy,this was a man who wrote songs decrying the status quo of the existing social order which is politically driven,he visited ethiopia and stayed at shashamene and was feted by the then marxist government,he supported the liberation struggle in zimbabwe,and performed at their independence,he celebrated the birthday of gabon`s president omar bongo,he performed in boston to raise funds for the freedom fighters in namibia,south africa,and zimbabe,the concert was called &quot;amandla&quot; and he gave an impromptu speech on african unity.

To say that Bob wasnt into politics is to do the man`s memory a diservice,while it may be true that he appeared to support no particular political party,he was most definitely up to his neck in politics,his whole life was a political struggle,the bob marley foundation seeks to promote stronger relationships between the african union,and african governments.

as for being called a celeb,...it is true,he probably didnt see himself as a celebrity,but I`m sure he recognised that he was one,....as is the case with most celebrities.

As for being at obama`s inauguration,...well.....he was at zimbabwe`s independence,no doubt this is the kind of occasion that would have had him chomping at the bit to perform at,without a shadow of a doubt.

Neother of them knew what he was yo to. He decided on his own,that he would do it. he called bothg od them one by one on the stage,before a crowd of their coinstituents, and while standing between them,he held each of their hands. He then brought their hands toghther.
That is after he was threatened, not to have the concert, by the CIA.
He also got all the then Fons to hold hans too. They would not have come if they realized what he was upto.
He ran things. Things don't run him.
He did what he wanted to do not what society expected or wanted him to do.

I find it funny that you can speak for a dead man.
As to getting Eddie Blinds and Menlie to shake hands it was not planned, not rehearsed but it was not a trick. The affair was billed a Peace Concert. Menlie asked him to play because he was closer to the PNP and supported the PNP, but Eddie Blinds and the massive was invited, so I don't see how it could be a trick if he called them up on stage to shake hands.

So being invited to the inauguration event would have been a favour to Bob?
As I said I really don't know what Bob would have done and if he would have been invited, but based on his history it seems inconceivable that would have shied away from a venue, which would have afforded him an opportunity to talk or promote unity.

You're forgetting about Bob's performance at the independence celebrations when Rhodesia got its independence from Britain. Although that didn't go quite as planned so I don't think he'd do it again if given a chance.

I personally think that Bob would decline an invitation to Obama's inauguration.
