u know , all i read from Derek saying he is playing down his blackness, is as simple as he said it....it is not a negative but a simple and realistic assessment of wat he has to do...an people know it too...he has to go the extra mile to appear impartial...the reality of the society is such that he cannot appear to favour blacks as we know there r those who r keeping an eye on him for just that reason....while people did not say that Bush was playing up his whiteness r playing down his whiteness, wen it counted he was accused of not caring for blacks..so was the opposite of that, playing up his whiteness?
