When some black people accuse other black people of being a &quot;sellout&quot; they presume that there should be some kind of unity based on colour,therefore shared values,but it`s impossible for all black people to have shared values based simply on colour,... humans seldom work that way,we survive in the best way we know,and everyone`s experience is different,and everyone`s path is different,...you live and you die,and the in-betweens are determined by individual choices,...regardless of what colour you are,or where you live.

Personally I think that the same black people who label other black people as &quot;sellouts&quot; dont give a crap about black people,its got nothing to do with race,or colour,....they only care for themselves,...what they are actually saying is that &quot; you are successful at what you are doing,and I am not,and I disapprove of your methods for getting successful,I wish I was in your position but you didnt help me&quot;.

One thing you will never see is a successful black person labeling another successful black person a &quot;sellout&quot;,....and therein lies the rub.

i would never explain this to a 6-year old; in this day and time i don't think its necessary --unless we still think of ourselves in such terms;
and if the analyzing is being done regarding the past as it relates to slavery (which is the only context i can justify terms like 'house negro' &amp; 'field negro') then i am puzzled as to why we hold on so bitterly to that term 'negro' (knee-grow);
are we not the same people now that we were then? are we 'blacks' now but whenever we refer to ourselves in the past-tense we become 'negros'?
i and i have been an african regardless of what time period they speak of...so bun 'negro'...

i adopted my son at birth - he was passed over by several other couples - because he was too black for their taste - i was appalled - i find a lot of discrimination is within the race

The following is a quote from el-Haj Malik El Shabazz (once known as Malcolm X) after his haj.



“You may be shocked by these words coming from me. This was not too difficult for me. Despite my firm convictions, I have always been a man who tries to face facts, and to accept the reality of life as new experience and new knowledge unfolds it. What Malik discovered is that in many cases it is not so much racism that is the problem but the classism that separates us all.

In predominantly black societies such as Jamaica the problems of the society stem not from racism but from the unequal distribution of wealth; classism.

The wealthy separate themselves from the poor.

It is the economic and not the racial divide that becomes the overriding factor.

This is what Malik came to in his last years.

AND.... in the rich United States where many blacks rise to positions of wealth and power, they too forget their poorer oppressed brothers and sisters simply because that is how everyone behaves in a society that has money as it's standard for success.

IMO, it is more egregious however for blacks like Colin Powell and Condoleezza Rice to throw away morality and class consciousness forget about the racism that the white U.S. society is inflicting upon their (once) brothers and sisters and truly become the &quot;house negroes&quot; of today's post-slavery racist United States.
Indeed, they have moved right into the master's White House and joined their masters in persecuting and killing millions of people of color all over the world.

I would agree that &quot;house negro&quot; is an outdated term but it so very parallels the Powell/Rice situation that it bears mentioning.

Those who wish to question my opinion of Powell, Rice et al had better do a lot of reading on Vietnam (3 million killed) U.S. policies in Africa ( the killing of Patrice Lumumba, support of terrorist in Angola, the support of racist South Africa, unconditional support of Israel against the Palestineans and so on and so on, all of which were and are actively supported by Rice and Powell, both of whom should have known better.

This in no way intends to put the entire blame for racist U.S. foreign policy on the two but they did happily sign up for the killing didn't they.?

Toms, sellouts, house negroes....take your pick.

Then compare them with the likes of Malik El Shabazz and those that fought the fight against racism to the death.

Listen, the situation in the Muslim world is NOT the same as the situation in North America, the UK or the Caribbean. Not even close. Malcolm X never said that race was not a factor. NEVER. He did become aware of the role of class. In places like Jamaica the dynamics of race and class (in socio-economic terms) play out in a way that has kept and continues to keep Blacks at the bottom. When one opens the Gleaner and looks at the social pages and in a majority Black country one is seeing White and near white faces, it's a problem. When in a majority Black country year after year Miss Jamaica is anything but African, something is wrong. When one opens the Gleaner and year after year in the most eligible bachelor feature very few of the faces are Black, something is SERIOUSLY worng If you can't see that, then you need to get a new pair of glasses.
