Anonymouse demanded that the administrator provide sources to disprove Anonymouse's original claim (post 33963): &quot;you say my statements are contradicted by Harry Hoetink yet I fail to see where Mr. Hoetink addresses the population of Trinidad &amp; Tobago. Please show me where my statements regarding race, racial identity in Trinidad &amp; Tobago are contradicted by Mr. Hoetink.&quot; No. It does not work that way. Anonymouse made an implausible statement of fact. He was asked to provide sources as per the rules. The administrator made no statement of fact (other than the Caribbean islands of Spanish culture are part of the West Indies, which any map will confirm). Having made no factual claim, the administrator is under no obligation to provide sources.

5. Anonymouse implied that it is impossible to study the varying ways that people of the West Indies perceive &quot;race.&quot; He wrote (post 33963): &quot;22 hours to do what? Query the population of Trinidad &amp; Tobago? This is absurd.&quot; If Anonymouse believes that the only way to defend his original implausible claim is to &quot;query the population of Trinidad &amp; Tobago,&quot; then he should not have made the claim. Indeed, a three-label system is the hallmark of &quot;racial&quot; perception in every former British colony outside of North America. As a matter of fact, until recently, coloured and black Trinidadians even had different privileges under island law.

FABULOUS movie Dotcom... I have it. Have you seen the movie Pinky. Similar theme, different result.

Anyway in Pinky, the light skinned Black woman (also played by a White actress Jeannie Crain) has a Black grandmother. Lena Horne was acutally supposed to play BOTH roles from what I have read.

Even Showboat talks about this theme....remember the light skinned Black woman who as almost arrested on the Showboat? (The part was played by a White actresss....Ava Gardner in one version and another White actress in another version). The part relevant to this thread starts at 3:00.

It is impossible to mention Showboat without posting Paul Robeson's performance. This man was WELL ahead of his time. The film was released in 1936. He was cast for the role and my good man <span style="font-weight: bold">REFUSED </span>to sing the N word in this song. They had to change the lyrics to darkies, which at the time was considered less offensive.
