Someone who looks Black and claims they aren't Black only ends up looking really pathetic and ridiculous. I remember when I was in the states and <span style="font-style: italic">some </span> Black Jamaicans would claim they are not Black, the African Americans would mock them. My question is why are people so quick to deny their Blackness and so eager to "pass". All of this self-loathing in this day and age. </div></div>

In the same vein why are some folks so interested in demarcation?
Where is this White vs. Black Jamaicans argument coming from?

I shared this off-line with you RichD and I will share it with the board. I have heard of this happening but I know of one case PERSONALLY. This Jamaican lady and her brother look White. Their father is one of the German dem about whom Britisha and I had a disussion. The mother is mixed a light skinned Black. The woman went to England and passed for White. She married a White man without revealing that she was in fact Black. When de pickney did bawn, him did look Black....needless to say DE DOLLY HOUSE MASH UP!!! Now she lives near Toronto and speaks NOTHING but patois 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The man would NEVER have married her if he had known she was Black. So, if someone is Black....dem bettah OWN it and proud a it. Our genes are dominant and the truth will, more likely than not, eventually come out.

This is not the White vs Black argument....this is the denying you are Black argument combinged with a passing for White argument. It started in RichD's other thread. Mi and de one Wahalla did ketch up again!!

Why are YOU so bloody uptight about discussions that involve race?

It seems to me that buying into the "one drop rule" is itself a form of internalized racism. Why do people expend so much time and energy determining who is <span style="font-style: italic">authentically</span> black and who isn't. Personally, I wouldn't give a rat's behind if a very dark man from, say, Zambia, says he's Mongloid/Oriental and not black. For me, society says I'm a black man, and I have no problems with that categorization, but "human being" suits me fine. I guess that makes me a self-loathing black man.

LOL I have never once heard so-called white Jamaicans scheming against blacks on any basis...but maybe I am at a little disadvantage because I am not one of them.
On the other hand these Black Crusaders are always in the just the right position to hear and see white-Jamaicans either scheming, telling their sons and daughters not to marry blacks or getting their asses kicked in the USA because they are not white enough.

Oh really .....fascinating how you could have been raised in Jamaica and never seen or heard of that. I feel another person in denial thread coming on. Next thing you'll tell me you are unaware of the fact that there are certain hotels, golf courses and tennis clubs AND beaches in Jamaica where Black people were not allowed up until relatively recently.
