We were set up to fail even before we became Independent...quote unquote.. When you think that these marauding edit edit err vultures.. were in charge of us, Lorded it over us, cowed us and left their bloody imprints all around us in such a cursed setting, what else could/would happen...?

Only by the grace of God, and the guidance/blessings of our ancestors that we survived all that chit..

Those other islands like Cayman are inhabited by many of Jamaican descent...but they were smart, they never asked for Independence...moreover, they are now in the big boy's league...hiding money from thieves and crooks, and as you know <span style="font-weight: bold">money talks and b-s walks</span>..the loot has to be protected...now Obama is pushing for no more secret accounts where thieves like Madoff can hide the loot..

Barbados never really shook off the British culture...diss is why dem still refer to Bajans as the British of the Caribbean...they were never forceful and uppity as Jamaicans..even to this day, yuh can tell a Bajan in a group of West Indians...dat wurd

There are other countries also that has gained their independence from former colonial masters and has managed to make a success of their independence,dont you think that there is something about the jamaica psyche that will forever be an obstruction to good governance.

Somehow it doesnt sit right with me for people to forever harp on that jamaica`s failure is because of the former slave masters,we are masters of our own destiny,if the timing wasnt right then why ask for independence,...then complain when it doesnt work.

I do agree with you,some people,especially foreigners,..are most definitely not qualified to speak on jamaica`s behalf,they visit for a few days,get some local personality to drive them down a couple streets,and talk to locals from the safety of their car, and then act as if they are qualified to speak with some authority on what they perceive to be jamaica`s problems,..I have no time for people like this,...but every now and again you get an a-hole like this that refreshes the page on the discussion surrounding jamaica`s post independence blues.

Idiotic observations there are examples of a country such as Singapore, which was worse off in 1972 than Jamaica when Jamaica elected to return to the ranks of the uncivilized.

The writer fails to mention that there is no modern democracy in the world that armed its citizens against each other, chased out the majority of its local entrepreneurs, handed over millions of wealth to foreigners for pennies, has a corrupted political system which has in turn corrupted every institution in its care, that is today successful.
