Of course Jamaica had remarkable rates of growth. But the question is what figures did it start at? If you start at zero as Jamaica did after Britain took all the treasury, any growth will still be more than 100%. since 1 dollar on 1 dollar is 100% growth.

I have bee posting here longer than every one that follows and opposes many of my views. and I have outlasted many more than is her today.
When I answer I am not really interested in so much in changing their views,as I am in stating the true picture for those other that will read it. These Boards are read by a lot more people than reply to it. It is read by students , to a greater degree than they post. since they have little time to post. and more over they are really interested in learning and consider themselves ignorant to the topic anyway. So I really do not take the posters that post their views,even i if wrong. I do not even bother with those who get personal. I just ignore it and keep posting. for every minute I spend arguing with someone about behavior is time taken from stating more information. Information is of no use unless it is transferred interaction. As long as I keep putting it out there, eventually somebody will act on some aspect to return much benefit to even a few.
sometimes they eveh Pm their Posse to crowd out your posts wit even spurious stories too. That is all a part of it.

Sorry doc, I know that your points of argument are progressive, but the resources available to Ja. are intrinsically more valuable than that of Icelands. Aluminium smelting is an industry than only comes about from the mining of bauxite...hopefully I won't need to expand, but other countries also have this and do not have &quot;rich&quot; economies from it.
The whole concept of Iceland being a bubble was the fact that the value of it's GDP was not based on real productivity, but on borrowings, and when the borrowings were not available you saw where the cookie crumbled.
They will bounce back as they know now what can be achieved. It has brought them national pride sense of independence, and they are hungry to have that back- even if it was on borrowings, some even expressed the desire to have stability again even if it is based on just the marine economy that they had.

Jamaica on the other hand - you have to start with instilling hope...If we had a more sophisticated economic model for Jamaica, a history of delivery on progressive economic policies, stable political processes (of course that is less of an issue now, but..) lower crime, then of course our rating would also improve and be able to attract lower interest rates ...Although I do agree that we had/have a wider deficit to catch up - especially on educationwise.

yes i know that it would seem that any country that has the primary prpoduct should achieve the highest economic return. But,....ther is a but.
The users of the product and th eopwners of the plants decides wher to place the secondary manufacturingplantrs. remember that jamaica bauxite has to be transormed into alumina,a dn then that alumiona has toi be transformed into aluminum. The process of transformimng alumina into aluminum is highlyenergy intensive. as a result it was originallyonly done with th euse of hydro-electricity, in Canada, geothermal energy in Iceland and in sweded.,
Then as the process becomes more effciennt, they introduced petroleoum and other hrdrocarbon.
Now at th eoutset Janaica was the first place that bauxite was mined,after the process to transform it was diascovered. Jamaica was a colony of briutain. Britain allowed them to do whatever they wanted and pay Jamaica 5 us cents per ton royalty. This went on until it was raised to 5US dollars. but jamaica was still only producing bauxitye. Alumina production was only introduced to Jamaica in late 1960's after independence. Evenwith that Jamaica was only getting 5 dollar per ton royalty.
One more thing. Jamaica did nogt t have any meythod of knowinghow much bauxite and alimina was exported other than what was reported. So that is how the Jamaicabauxite institite came about. Any way that is enough.

Jamaica could not make as much money as Iceland, because primary products prices a suppressed and the value is addwed at the finished products.
o since iceland was at that end, they made many times more than Jamaica did.and c

Interesting Point you brought up. It is true that Jamaica has no developentally inclined economic model.
the reason is although Jamaica has been given independence by britain. The whole developed world has made a pact at the Bretton Woods convention after ww2, that the colonies should be granted self government, but must be kept as a source of primary products to drive the developed world.
This requires policies that prevent them from achieving economic growth to the point where they can involve in secondary and finished goods production from their raw ,materials. A strategy to achieve that policy is to pay them so little that they cannot amass reserves. Charge them so high for their imports that they are always in need of loans. give them quotas that and punish them with lower prices, if they do not achieve it. The latter is useful to stop countries from phasing out parts of their 9economy and gradually use the factors on more profitable forms of production. Inn Other words our factors of production, is supposed to be producing cheap stuff for developed world. the greatest part of that strategy is to have in place a merchant class that is satisfied with the way the economy is going and maintain it that way. This is done by financing or starving politicians and political parties and other nefarious means if necessary. We need more than education we need strategic education

remember that practice don't always make perfect. Only the <span style="font-weight: bold">perfect and appropriate practice makes perfect</span>. since bad practice will never achiece perfection.
