people follow weath like current follow potential diference.. it is all economics...

Last year the hand of bananas was cheaper in the UK than in Jamaica.....

I can only speak for myself.. unlike others I left Jamaica for lack of opernutity.. unlike many I earnt a crust as a day labourer, a small farmer, a hired hand.. the guy whom yu yusaata si a cut cane, chap road, dig marl, pull caffee...

I considered myself a peasant farmer... I had no way of economic upliftment as I had neitehr teh training nor the connection.. To me there is a huge gulf between what the expectations/ economics of the Jamaicans on here (Ja.com) in Jamaica was and what mine was.. Dont get me wrong as my brother put it.. we were not poor we just had a twenty year cash flow problem... Had I had had the opertunity of having the economics to have hired domestic or the hirted hand I would never had left. or even the credit facilities or the contacts I would never had left. nor the ability to further education...

. child poverty is a pschosis it leads to inferirity complexes.. So why would I return to the place of pain... I hear guys on here remonstrating about beaches and parties that was never my experience ???? mine was fear, uncertainty being marginalised and brutalised.... Why go home ??? for the emotional attachment ???to be a nuvo-Colon-man ????? Freedom and life style ????? I changed and Jamaica has changed... it was never gentle to me so why should I be gentle ????

But jamaica dont need me after all the last thing they need is another person with a violent skill set!!! A sell out an unconsious person, an idiot.. an exploiter.. well I was call this on here as well as in Jamaica.... &quot;Corruption&quot; was one of my youth full nomenclatures... Ideally this would be the outcome,however,some returnees has suggester that they have regrets about moving back,my mother being one of them.
Apart from the crime situation,the intermittent electricity cuts,the rip offs,and the expectation that because you are a returnee you are wealthy,not to mention the many inconveniences,... there is also a big boredom factor for people who have lived abroad,...not being able to book a restaurant and have a nice meal out,go to the theatre to watch a play,or opera,...go to the cinema,an efficient public transportation system,.....if you`ve lived abroad for a very long time after a time the little inconveniences can add up and make life miserable. </div></div>

I hear you on the inconveniences Neutral *chukkle* As for the electricity, that alone would let some Jamaicans stay away perma nently. I've heard of many people who went home and moved right back to farrin.

A cousin of mine who lived in England for a good 20 years, then moved to the US, went home and got broke is right back there in Texas.

I remembered when my Mum returned home as well...don't ask who nain try to rip her off including family; she &quot;ran&quot; two buses from country to town, an ppl did think shi ha monie and di shennigans dem duh fi get monie.

Shi nevah really said that she was sorry she moved back, hanless when shi ha coat'ouse worries when ppl faked accidents to get monie...on a whole methinks shi did henjoy going back home...shi cudda run hup to the old yaawd whey shi baawn, spen time wid di fambly...raise har chikkins and all did buy wan pig, whey dem teef...mi did gi oono di joke whey dem did teef di whole fowl coob a chikkin dem, an nobaddie nain hear, dem sleep so soundly..

Every body innah di town square did know Mama...di supahmawkit, the BANK[s], the police dem huppah station, the hardware store whey shi used to buy lumbah, cement, paint and ten-penny nails ...shi did luv dem saawt a tings, an living a farrin wuddah juss mek har pine more fi duh dem tings deh....an Mama wasn't born in that town, she moved there before she migrated and went back there to die..

Now an agen when mi visited, and mi used to go home all 4 an 5 times ayear, juss fi si har, shi used to ask mi tings like &quot;if such an such a bakery still deh deh&quot;...membah how shi used to buy mi an mi kids goodies from there...

Shi was nat di type fi goh movies an opera, shi wudda more siddung a har sewing machine or siddung pan di veranda/back porch, an shell har peas dem..and sing..she tilled her likkle piece a lan an did haff grung food fi gi whey...mi here reminiscing but mi a relive di days when mi did deh deh, an whey mi tink mi a long fah...

Mi tink mi haff moe dan enuff a farrin loife..an noh get mi wrang PLEASE...farrin has done a lot for me financially at least...so all praises bi to di Hallmighty...now, even hiff mi haffie goh swing innah wan hammock wid wan likkle transistah radio a mi foot a play an one young chile a pick two jelly near mi...mi tink mi wi acclamatise miself to being a yaawdie once moe..

Mi sistah seh, all how ppl keep watch pan odda ppl yaawd, and can tell when nobaddie no deh deh, and fi goh hinvestigate fi si hiff dem okay...dat still nice..even hiff a fass dem wan fass, but a so wi stay..

Well Wallie, I hear you loudly and clearly..however if you must take consolation in the fact that you are/were not the only one who encountered some ruff times where they were born and raised.

It happens in every culture/country...if it is not this, it's that, and if it's not that, then it's this...One big shot whey mi work, a giant in his field whey baawn a Greece tel mi seh when mi complain, fi one whole striking week he never ate...noh ting called food passed his mouth...so when wi complain about shoes, there are those widdout feet....dat time him was a yute, and him suffered like a man, cause he had a PLAN.

As mi tyad fi seh aawn yah, mi nain tink seh aniboddie did poorah dan wi...but looking back, that was not the case, but growing up that was the feeling that *I* had...but mi nain mek it boddah mi..mi plod aawn and trod aawn..

Growing up a Kingston cuddah bi ruff, dere were more Ben Johnson days tham mi cuddah membah, aldoa mi fadda had property a Manchesteer and mi Modda a St. Catherine but is to access the food.

Mi experienced life on the Naawt Coast, when mi was govahment employee and moved from town to town when transferred.. mek mi money an si how farrinahs cum an spend..,mi was barely of age.. then it dawned on mi fi goh a farrin, while mi still did innah mi yute...so on a whole Jamaica did ruff, but mi always console miself seh <span style="font-weight: bold">a prophet iw NOT widdout honour in his own country</span>


Some faawt whey gwaan abrawd wid some a wi, cudda dare nat gwaan a yaawd....some a wi are still stranjahs innah unknown lands..and yes, the country has changed, some a wi shame fi wha a gwaan dung deh, but wi still haffie hole aawn...b'cozz yuh know wha? Tings cuddah get so bad abrawd, many a wi whey a pop style, might tun roun and run right back to that rock fi refuge...an a dehsoh it agguh really deh<span style="font-style: italic">..annuh me did seh soh..</span>

Fi fadda halways seh, nevah spit pan stone an trow it backah yuh..and Papa did travel many countries in Latin America incl. Cuba..

A chroo yuh a talk, if someone wants to go home, the time is never right...juss gwaan and si how it is...As mi sed, goh fi seh 6 months, feel out di place, then mek or noh mek yuh move.


All dat being said, is one thing fi dodge bakkles, is anadda ting fi dodge bullits..and as Neutral said, if you are easily bored, certain parts of yaaawd is nat fi yuh...even life on the NCoast can become boring aftah a while..

I spoke to my mother about this the other day. She does not even want to go to visit anymore. Her concerns are the usual crime but moreso lack of readily available healthcare. As much I convince her otherwise she remains unconvinced.

Every or almost every Jamaican has his/her pet peeves that would make going back to yaawd a no no.

When many of us left home, things were much better...and dem did bad by our standards then...so, if things were bad then, and things are wurseer now..it stands to reason why some ppl noh waan fi goh back for good...added to all that everyone has described, the bad roads really get pan mi lass nerve...especially the roads innah di country whey politrixians noh set foot til eleckshan time.

I am starting to feel the same way as your husband Skelly.

To me Jamaica was always a great place to visit even though I would never consider moving back. Lately however, I find that there are other places I may prefer to visit instead. I have just grown tired of the scamming and the bull from so many who see me as nothing more than a source of money.

Ask the Jamaicans in Dubai if they going back to Jamaica. Guarantee you 80% will say yes.

Bout the British, UK is so miserable that the Dubai weather, no tax, and lifestyle (helper + gardener) is a big improvement and why would they go back.

To a Jamaican, yard nicer than Dubai, the helper a yard more reliable and chat English, and they only reason they are here is for work/experience. They going back home.

Then you have the percentage of expats that once and expat, always an expat. So they will roam the world with no roots anywhere.
