The entire statement was basically in a thread about MOVING to Jamaica....the statement said that I was sure most Jamaicans don't really CARE if we do or don't move there (probably leaning more to the don't )from expressions on this board), and then I stated that one Prolific poster would probably prefer that we don't VISIT there much less move there.


This has nothing to do with whether tourist do or don't understand the plight or issues tourism may bring....of course anyone who can read or who has visited Jamaica and has an IQ over 50 can discern that.

My statement was simply that from some of the postings that person has made it would seem they are &quot;anti-tourist&quot;.(and don't feel like the lone ranger, there are many on here who seem to express that from time to time if not often).

The fact of the matter is TOURISM (nasty word) is in fact a very important factor in Jamaica's economy

Tourism continues to be the strongest performer in the Jamaican economy, according to the Bank of Jamaica’s (BoJ) Quarterly Economic Report for April-June, released last week.

The only other sector projected to record expansion is the hotel and restaurants sector which benefited from the diversions of visitors to Jamaica from Mexico due to the outbreak of the H1N1 virus there, as well as the advertising and promotional activities of the Ministry of Tourism. In this context total stopover arrivals are expected to grow by 1.5 percent.

Overall, growth in hotels and restaurants was estimated to be above the average expansion of 1.9 percent over the last eight quarters.</span>

Believe me....I wish that for .....oh let's say two years, I could stop every single soul who is not Jamaican or a returning Jamaican visitng family and those with interest in the country from going. NOT ONE SOUL.....I'll let the rest take care of itself...I think you would know the results.

By the way, as I stated before, I live in a tourist town too. The things that go on at Shades in Ocho Rios, were happening at Platinum Plus not more than 5 miles from my house and shares a parking lot with my favorite Picadilly restaurant. Any yard that people go to mess in that is not their own is prone to the same thing. You ain't got no monopoly on this, I'll never argue with your right to complain, as it is your country, please don't argue with my right to complain about being complained about all of the time.
