About Our Ancestors, Rose Hall and Annie Palmer

Never visited Rose Hall Great House before. What a wicked woman the "White Witch of Rose Hall" was. It's the slaves that gave her the nickname. She was STEEPED in VOODOO that she learned in Haiti and a very cruel person.

Anyway, ever wonder why at one time there were hundreds of great houses in Jamaica and now there are so few left?

Apparently our ancestors did bun dem all dung and the only ones they spared were the ones owned by people who treated their slaves well. It gives one pause. So some of the White and mixed Jamaicans who own plantations and great houses that have been in their family for hundreds of years, that is why they are still there. This part of our history should be told
Their White ancestors treated our Black ancestors well and now they are one of us.

The threat of violence was so great that a lot of the Great Houses had secret passages to the sea.

Anyway, if our ancestors were so strong, poweful and conscious, how come some of we so fraid a backra and sell out today?

Great houses were the homes of plantatin owners...most plantatiosn were broken up and sold off the houses went into disrepair

And did she come out and grab him? :LOL: Apparently they brought Voodoo priests from Haiti to communicate with her and she said that there never will be any other Mistress of Rose Hall.

Did you hear about the American couple who stayed there during the 1970s? They were drinking tea. All of a sudden, they heard a baby crying in the room where she murdered her fist husband. They went to investitage. When they returned their tea cups were missing. They found them smashed to pieces in her bedroom. They high tailed it out of there and never completed their night's stay.

During the 19th century, a couple bought it. The maid was setting thigns up and apparently the ghoste of Annie Palmer pushed her to the death off the balcony (So dem sey.)

I didn't get an inventory. The guide at Rose Hall said it. She has been working there for over 10 years. Why would she lie?

A few Contradiction.. 1) you cannot treat a slave &quot;well&quot; you have to give freedom and ,reparations I DOUBT ANY OF THE SLAVE MASTERS DID THAT.. 2) Annie palmer was said be be a wicked slave owner, so how come her house is still around? Some ting nat rite wit that theory.

Here is the story we were told at Rose Hall. After she died, the slaves destroyed her things, her clothes furniture, you name it. Very few of the original pieces survived. BUT because she was so heavily into VODOO and Obeah, they were afraid that if they burned down her house, her spirit would haunt them. They were afraid of her even after death because seh was so evil. So, they decided not to burn her house and leave it as a place where her spirit could roam freely and leave her alone.
