This depend on which version of the story one believes. According to Yates, documents in Jamaica show that Annie was born in Jamaica to a planter family. According to the fictionalized legend, she was born in England and migrated to Haiti at age 10 with her parents. According to the fictionalaized legend, she was raised by a voodo priestess after her parents died and that is how she learned about voodoo.
