More details have emerged on what has been described as a major islandwide offensive on crime.
It has been revealed that more than 300 policemen and women who were assigned to desk duties and non-operational areas of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) have been reassigned and deployed to the streets.
The figure was revealed on Monday night by the JCF.

Monday our news centre reported that the deployment is aimed at reducing crime by deterring, detecting and arresting offenders.
Director of Communications for the JCF, Karl Angell, says the operation, which started last weekend, will be in effect until further notice.
"The deployment, as stated in the release, will be islandwide. Secondly it will be both day and night so we will be out there at all times during the 24-hour day. Over 300 police men and women who were in offices have been deployed to operational duties at this point in time," Mr. Angell said.
The police say members of the public should not be alarmed at the increased presence of the security forces and should play their part by providing information to the JCF's secured lines at Police Control 119, Crime Stop 311 and Operation Kingfish 811.
