OK I saw the movie
OH lowd here it comes… I did not like some aspects of it.
I still stand by my earlier statements about these characters being a portrayal of the real life situations of abused /poverty stricken blacks. That still stands!
But no man the images of the light versus dark skinned and fat versus slender was just too disturbing even for me. I am not going to call the movie racist – this wasn’t written or directed by some white supremacist
so mi naah goh dat far but the stereotypes being displayed <span style="text-decoration: underline">throughout</span> (<span style="font-style: italic">and mi purposely emphasize Throughout</span>) the movie went way too far in my opinion.
I don’t mind other characters being of ALL different shades .. that is life - we all not dark skinned but Every time Precious was happy or being “rescued”, it had to be someone of the lighter shade? Did it have to be that way? Even that "light skin" bway behind har in her dreams was getting on my nerves- wey im fah??? No man that went way too over board. I discussed this heavily with my girlfriends and some say that’s how dark skin people look at themselves – wanting to be lighter and that’s what the movie was saying. I don’t buy into that! Regardless of Precious circumstance about being raped by her dad and abused by her mom – I would have thought her strive to be free form all these horrors and oppression should not have to be portrayed as her wanting to be light skinned. She wanted to go to college ..she wanted more for her kids. Why couldn’t that be good enough? I don’t know - I just think that sense of her not liking her skin color went overboard. Her skin color WAS NOT her issue.
HER Nasty –ahole daddy and Low class modda was her issue.

Access to healthy foods worse in poor areas
NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - People who live in poorer neighborhoods in the U.S. are less likely to have easy access to supermarkets carrying a wide variety of fresh produce and other healthy food, an analysis of 54 studies confirms.
But they probably have plenty of unhealthy fast food joints to choose from, Dr. Nicole I. Larson of the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis and her colleagues found.
"The research I reviewed suggests there is a need for new policies and other local actions to address the problem of poor access to healthy foods in many lower income, rural, and minority communities," Larson told Reuters Health.
Evidence is mounting, Larson and her team note, that segregation of neighborhoods by "income, race, and ethnicity" plays a major role in US health disparities, and accessibility to healthy -- and unhealthy -- food may be a factor.
To investigate, they reviewed studies published between 1985 and 2008 that looked at food access by neighborhood in the United States. While supermarkets are likely to sell the widest variety of healthy foods at the cheapest prices, convenience stores usually charge more, and tend not to sell fresh food, the researchers note in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine.
The studies they reviewed confirmed that minority and low-income individuals who live near supermarkets have healthier diets. For example, one investigation found that the likelihood that African-Americans would meet guidelines for fruit and vegetable consumption rose by 32% with every additional supermarket located in the census tract where they lived.
Three studies found a reduced risk of obesity among people with more supermarkets in their neighborhood; two of these studies found a link between better access to convenience stores and increased obesity risk.
Research also clearly shows "stark racial and ethnic disparities" in the type of food stores available in neighborhoods, according to the researchers. One study showed that mostly-black neighborhoods had half as many chain supermarkets as predominantly white neighborhoods, while Hispanic neighborhoods had a third as many such stores as white areas.
Six studies in which investigators actually visited stores and checked out the merchandise found healthy foods like fresh produce, low fat dairy foods, high fiber breads and lean meats were more available and of higher quality in white neighborhoods than non-white neighborhoods. Rural communities also tend to have worse access to supermarkets, the researchers add.
Possible ways to encourage supermarkets to set up shop in lower income neighborhoods could include "financial incentives, helping to conduct market feasibility studies, assistance with parking/transportation plans, and assistance with site cleanup/assembly," Larson said. However, she added, there has been very little research on evaluating strategies or policies for reducing inequalities to access to healthy foods."
But the experience of other countries shows that there's no reason it can't be done; Larson pointed out that studies in New Zealand, Australia, Canada and Scotland found that supermarket availability was actually greater in lower-income neighborhoods.

She added, “My life seemed like, from the time I was 5 to maybe my late-20s, everything was black and white because I had never dealt with the issues that Precious had to do. And the reason I named this song ‘I Can See In Color’ was because when I finally woke up or got to a point where I said, ‘I can not live like this anymore,’ it just seemed like everything turned into color.
Kravitz did not attend TIFF, but Tyler also used “System,” a song the rocker produced for reunited group Labelle. “It’s about the political system and the welfare system,” says Lee, who placed it in a crucial scene where Precious receives another life-changing blow. Curiously, Carey does not have a song in the movie. “I did not want to use Mariah’s music. It’s what I fought. It’s like the biggest, hardest thing ever for me,” he says emphatically, “because I wanted to make sure that she was noted for her acting. It was so important to me that she was noted for her acting.”

The films I do are not for my family. I'm from the ghetto. They don't watch hard films. My mom said to me once “Why don't you do films like Tyler Perry?”
I learned it is a universal story, by simply telling the truth. Everyone is precious.
And, I have Tyler Perry on the film as a producer so I know my mother will see it (laughs)”
My earliest memory was my mother and me... my father (who was physically abusive) put us both in a trash can. I remember both of us sitting in the trash can, and I was thinking “I don't care about me. I only care about what happens to my mother.”
I can't stand to see a woman touch or abused in any way. So I heal every time I do a movie.Comment

Time was back in the day, Blacks often stopped whatever they were doing to run to the television for a rare glimpse of their own complexion. Many years later, the NAACP says a “serious shortage” of Blacks on prime-time TV threatens to turn back the clock – and the Tyler Perrys of the industry can only do so much. “At a time when the country is excited about the election of the first African-American president in U.S. history, it is unthinkable that minorities would be so grossly under-represented on broadcast television,” NAACP president Benjamin Todd Jealous states in the report, “Out of Focus, Out of Sync: Take 4.” A virtual disappearance of Black-targeted programming has occurred since the WB and UPN networks merged two years ago, according to the report. Among the top four networks’ shows, only CBS’ “The Unit,” CW’s, “Everybody Hates Chris” and the CW’s “The Game” are led by Black casts, according to the study. The NAACP urges the formation of a task force including network execs, educators and activists to address the alleged shortage.

De movie industry is no different den de music industry, it is controlled by a group of ppl who lay out certain rules if yuh waan get played, de same ppl own 300 odd radio station jus like de same ppl who own how much cineplex ar odeon etc.
