Jamaicans have voted always on the choices that they have.. They have always voted for whom they think would give them the best deal....It is interesting that the swing voters in the Jamaican electorate is less than 30%...

We have never relly voted by ideology, but by pork barrel! Any other way and then we would be simpletons...

The thing is...voters...the masses...in the democratic countries I know of...are ALL treated like simpletons...and often act as such.

Jamaica then is NO different that anywhere else. I was never a fan of CIAga. But what he said...is, to me, a universal fact...not a local blip on the radar.

We all know that, when it comes to politics, Jamaicans are as passionate, as interested, as tuned in, as knowledgable, as uninformed, as disinterested, as unaware as any electorate elsewhere.

It always boils down to the individual.

I wouldn't say the masses of Jamaicans are simpletons, rather, just a certain segment, but that's not unique to Jamaica. I'm often appalled at the levels of ignorance and unsophistication I see in this powerful democratic first world country in which I happen to live.

I think simpletons are not exclusive to the so-called masses. The majority of the educated are simpletons themselves.
What percent of the educated bother to question the veracity of what is presented to them as news, opinions,or facts?

even when their experience proves that it is never accurate when relating to that of which they are familiar.
They still believe it is fact when it relate to others mdin locations far afield.
Only simple minds accept the analysis and opinions of others as facts.
The majority of people educated or uneducated behaves in this manner.

Have you ever bother to try and analyse why would the US require the president to be native birth?
How much do you know about the US history? Do you think it was some sort of trivial reason why that wa s put in the constitution??
In that the major players in the US economy then, were pledged to the colonial masters.
You probably is not aware that the Jamaican economy is in a similar position as the US economy inthe immediate years after independence.

Jamaica had the same fear that they could become a defacto colony of the US, although it may be independent on paper. And it is due to the same reason.

The same fear was the reason why the restriction was put in the Jamaican constitution, of citizens being pledged to a foreign power,except if the power was a member of the british commonwealth. the problem with that is it make Jamaica a de facto colony, although it is independent on paper.
