Re: Jamaican joined LePage household as teen

There are two issues here; the first is the controversy regarding the governor's refusal to participate in the NAACP's celebration of MLK Day for which he should be accused of insensitivity which is especially egregious since he is the leader of all the people in the state. It would not have hurt him in the least to have attended and would have set a fine example of supporting the cause of black equality in Maine and more importantly on the national level. To not do so and allow it to become a national issue fans the flames of racism.
The second issue is the fact that he DID adopt a disadvantaged black boy and in doing so set a fine public example of what is a right and good thing to do for race relations.
He should be commended for this. </div></div>
Johnnycakes,
There are many issues going on in this thread although the two you listed may be the main.
I'm not clear how my saying that I think a racist in denial would adopt a black child and stating that there is a vast difference in conservative ramifications for adopting a black teen versus having your lily white daughter marry one and legitimately dilute the gene pool.
Also as Evanovitch has repeatedly pointed out to what appear to be deaf ears, he hasn't adopted a soul. That means the teen is basically a foster child. That's not the worst deal ever but let's at least call it what it is.
None of my opinions to those arbitrary questions are a reflection on Maine's governor. I still don't know him from Adam's housecat and have no idea if he is a racist. He declined the invitation before and after he was elected. That doesn't mean that it would not be nice if he did attend, but he isn't going to so I don't like them carrying on like members of the BegAHo tribe.
Perhaps I am not communicating what I am saying clearly enough. I'm a bit baffled about being asked if I thought a white person who was not a racist would adopt a black child and being told that my "Bristol marrying a wealthy black man example" didn't hurt Maine's governor. It lets me know that obviously what I'm transmitting is not what is being received.
