Homosexuality is not a cause of violence against women and you most definitely made that assertion.
The lack of self-esteem and the loss of power, the lack of power, the loss of control over one's life in a beaten economy is more than a likely the primary and overwhelming cause of the violence in Jamaican society.

Yes the term Ba......yman is derogatory and offensive enough that it has to be censored here . It is hardly a neutral term. Your use of the term indicates homophobic beliefs and/or a lack of sensitivity on the issue.

In the U.S the homophobes use the term &quot;[censored]&quot;. It is extremely offensive to gay men and anyone using that term is very much like anyone using the &quot;n&quot; word, they are spotted immediately by gay men as homophobes or gay bashers.

My father was a racist and used the term &quot;jungle bunny&quot; in place of (at the time) negro to describe a black man. He thought it was funny-we, his children were horrified.

I was an office manager at one time and the office had several black women working there. One day I used the expression &quot;you people&quot; when addressing the office crew and later one of the black women took me aside and brought me up on the use of the phrase explaining that it was a racist and offensive way white people referred to black people. I had not known this and apologized profusely and indeed never used that phrase again except between me and Glendora when we were joking and also as a way of me letting her know that I had learned a valuable lesson from her on subtle bigotry.

Minister Grange condemns violence against women

The minister with responsibility for Women's Affairs and Gender Issues, Olivia Grange, has come out condemning violence against women following a story published in Tuesday's STAR entitled, &quot;Woman Beaten for Dinner&quot;.
In a release sent to THE STAR, Grange, who also has responsibility for Youth, Sports and Culture portfolios, also lashed out on an Internet-based recording currently in wide circulation which shows a woman being beaten by a man.

&quot;The report in the STAR is a reminder that physical abuse against women is still prominent and seemingly accepted, perpetuated and encouraged by many in the society from all walks of life and this must stop,&quot; she is quoted as saying in the release.

She further stated; &quot;If the incident which I saw on this video recording is indeed true, I am horrified at the way the young woman was treated by the man.&quot;

Grange said she strongly condemns violence against women in all shapes or forms, pointed out that such acts of physical and psychological violence are a clear violation of women's human rights.

The release stated that Jamaica has ratified certain international conventions which prohibit actions such as these. Nationally, there is the Domestic Violence Act under which women can get redress for such acts of violence being meted out to them. The country is said to also be guided by the National Policy Statement on Women and the National Policy for Gender Equality which supports administrative and legal reform so that women can receive adequate protection and treatment under the law.

According to Grange; &quot;I am appalled by this and other repeated acts of violence against women in communities and in the society as a whole. Such acts of violence should never occur, and furthermore be condoned by bystanders including other women, men and children. Each of us has a collective responsibility to protect and support each other. The community has a vital role to play.&quot;

She said she is committed to the United Nations campaign UNITE launched recently to end violence against women. This involves local artistes who have readily joined the campaign to convey messages of change for a transformed society.

Among those artistes who attended the UN workshop held in Jamaica recently and have videotaped messages to end violence against women are, Taurus Riley, Khago, George Nooks, Nadine Sutherland, Lady Saw and Tanya Stephens

Additionally, Bounty Killer, who recently faced the court in relation to an alleged abuse case, has now committed himself to join the campaign to end violence against women.

Some men who act super-macho and violent are gay and act the way they do to cover up their homosexuality for one reason or the other..

This whole thread is about men beating up women.

That men have problems that make them act out and hurt those weaker than themselves has nothing to do with homosexuality but you brought the subject into the discussions.

And the expression &quot;homo&quot; is not one that homosexuals use to describe one another or themselves. It is usually used by those who have a dislike for homosexuals/homosexuality or in your case most likely, the fact that you don't personally know any homosexuals.
