First of all, I'm from Alabama and I now live in Georgia which recently passed tough immigration laws as well.

Money rules. I think the new law in Georgia was supposed to pass around mid-month July. Now, a judge is in the process of removing two parts of the legislation: 1. That people who employ illegal immigrants are fined. (You know what that's about.) 2. That police don't get to check citizenship status on people with no valid i.d.

Just because a whole lot of ruckus is made doesn't mean anything when pocketbooks start getting hit. I was watching this clip on the news of a man who lost $40K worth of produce last week in rural Georgia Based on demographics, he was probably on the &quot;tougher immigration bandwagon&quot; til his workers abandoned him.

I don't know what needs to be done. but we should certainly sandblast &quot;give us your tired, your poor, your huddled masses...&quot; off the Statue of Liberty if the borders have closed.

No, I disagree.This isn't about stopping immigration. it's about stopping ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION. Anyone that enters the country LEGALLY is welcome.

The sad fact is that your right wing radio views are a match for Nazi, racist, South African viewpoints.

Any position like yours that punishes the victims is immoral, illogical and does not address the real problem which is the failure of neo-liberal capitalism, the massive poverty it creates in countries the U.S controls all driven by U.S ruling class imperialism in the world.

Your problem, as you have repeatedly demonstrated, is that you have no understanding of either economics or social justice and that your ignorance is what sociologists have proven is willful ; a refusal to look at the other side of things.

I am so glad these FACTUAL studies have been made and publicized because it just proves what I have found out in anecdotal cases like you. The right (religious or political) WILL not, CANNOT look at articles, books, ideas that contradict their thinking.

The fact that they CANNOT indicates serious intellectual mental deficiency and /or dishonesty.

The fact that your view agrees with right wing ideologues like Rush Limbaugh and the others who have entire books written about their errors of fact should tell you something were you in any way objective.

You are right about leaving, no means to make a living. Presently with the Federal ID programme, States have been taking away Drivers Licence from illegals. In North Carolina alone 50k Mexicans lost their legal Drivers Licence as of last year.
But are missing the point. The USA does not offer self-deportation!
There is no way to deport yourself from the USA, except for Mexicans because of the culture in the border areas.

With the GOP and their Tea-Bagging backers limiting the scope of Government and denying Administration the ability to take on debt ....pray tell where the resources is going to come from the enforce any immigration laws .....worse deportations?

It takes roughly $87K to deport one person from the USA. A few years a few years ago when the ICE/DHSS offered an experimental self-deportation it cost $85K each for the programme, a small saving.

There is no way the USA can afford to deport even a small fraction of 12Million illegals without offering amnesty coupled with self-deportation. In fact it might be better to start paying illegals to leave the USA

jah_yout, Please, ttry to keep up with current events. Hispanics are the folks that are causing the immigration debate and PROBLEM. Alabama is passing this because of an ILLEGAL HISPANIC POPULATION and so is Arizona.

the money angle is a valid argument but what is more powerful is the regular everyday voter. You see for years due to financial gain, illegals have gone &quot;un noticed&quot; in georgia, however, with more and more meth labs here being run not by americans but by mexicans the regular joe from around the corner is making his/her voice heard and a politician cannot risk that at the polls, therefore, the &quot;give them what they want&quot; tactic is being used to ensure votes. I think amnesty will happen but not for another five years or so, not now.

You maybe right, but If they charged the employer with the cost of deportation of any illegal hired, me thinks things would change.

A study has found that 100000 Latinos Have Left Arizona since the new illegal immigrant law. If the rest of the country would follow and bring suit aagainst the federal government for not doing their job, illegal hispanics would leave in droves.
