i just hate wen other ppl sit and judge ppl relationship bcus every relationship have dem issues. Somebody once told me marriage is choosing what kind of problems you can live with for the rest of her life.

she could marry the Prime minister and her life bcome a living hell. where as she can marry an excon who is no able to travel and she live a happy fulfilling live.....

so bcus he is an excon he can only marry a fellow excon? or he can only marry a ghetto gyal who is going to drag him dung? bcus he is an excon he can never rise above dat....

According to one Site that had her resume, she is in the middle of a Masters degree
a farrin. She will just have to travel without him. Maybe dem can skype

This reminds me of a thread many years ago, right here on ja.com. Some of the very posters here have repeated now what they said then; that a man with a job as a janitor/garbage man would have no chance with them, because he was too &quot;low class&quot; or below their expectations. It is disappointing to see that posters that I have read/enjoyed over the years haven't been able to shake the prejudices of their youth. I respect a man who works for a living, whether he farms, totes garbage, or mops floors, and I feel that I am at least as educated as most of you here.

We as a people must stop being the &quot;crabs in a barrel&quot; and uplift those of our people who are willing to work, no matter their &quot;class&quot; or colour. I don't need a man to make a lot of money, or have an advanced education (I had more than one of those, and he/they were soulless bourgeoisie eediots.). The man that I have/need is one who treats me with love and respect; I can make enough money for both of us. Money is too over-rated; you can't caress it at night, and you can't stroke it when you need a warm touch. Stop the bourgeois crap that's been put on you by your parents/society and look at a person's character, not their wallet/skin complexion.

My grandparents were raised with the same yardstick that you speak of, one that sickens my stomach. My father was uneducated and married &quot;above his station&quot;. My Jamaican grandmother would never admit that he gave my mother all that she required or needed. He gave college educations to both his daughters without himself having finished high school. My mother loved him until the day he died, after 55 years of marriage.

As to Jah Cure’s criminality: I have read the news articles at the time, and subsequent ones; and his conviction seems suspect. At the time of the supposed attack, he was supposedly recording in Kingston, then traveled to MoBay later. The victim was the only one who identified him by sight, the least reliable type of evidence, and no DNA evidence was presented in the trial. One would expect better science in a 20th/21st century trial. I don’t feel that I am alone in thinking that to brand someone as a rapist when only superficial evidence is presented, when scientific reality could settle the question, is shoddy a conviction.
I would suspect that a woman who is as educated as the bride and given certain privilege would be able to separate the wheat from the chaff. Give this young woman respect, that she who can make a suitable place for herself on her own, doesn’t need to marry a convicted rapist/performer in order to achieve greatness in this world. She is smart, beautiful, and should be confident enough in herself to know that no man can give her something she cannot get for herself.

I've been married for 12 years. We've been together for 14. At the time of our marriage, many of <span style="font-style: italic">his</span> friends thought he was being a 'little' stupid for marrying me and that it wouldn't last. I knew they were drawing on the fact that he's white and had money, I'm black and had none. So I know the whole 'concerns' about 'class' and money <span style="text-decoration: underline">can</span> be overcome.

I don't know anything about the couple in question, and who's to tell, the concerns expressed here may be valid. The only thing that gives me pause is his rape conviction. No matter how much money him have, an how much lyrics im can chroa, mi not marrying nobady who have even the 'hint' of rapist attached to him name. No-uh...

And why should I beat around the bush? I grew up in Jamaica, and rubbed shoulders with high society people. We were and still are a very classist society. To make it in those circles you either have to be non-black or mixed, born in money, or strike it rich somehow. JC got the opportunity to get in because of his fame. But in those same circles yu nah seh nothing if yu can't get away to Miami or Fort Lauderdale every so often. When threats of riots, civil war, and court cases loom, the Kingstonian elite will jet away to their second homes in the states. Is jus so it go. Now is only a matter of time before the implications of being a convicted criminal (even if him never even commit di crime) will sink in. I know me personally would not want to have to decline opportunities to enjoy life outside of JA because of my husband's criminal record. And that is my POV as an immigrant looking in, and a Portmore girl who grew up in the uptown world looking out. My father told me years ago when I had moved out to go live wid man,<span style="font-style: italic"> &quot;older eyes have wider vision.&quot;</span> I will never forget that, because sadly he was right.

It may sound negative,but it is still reality in Jamaica,that is how things set in Jamaica,nothing wrong with someone crossing the class divide in whichever way they can,but it,s obvious to everyone that having money/and or fame is a far quicker way of crossing the divide,even if you are ugly,and an ex convicted rapist.
