One reason they looked at what happened to Portia vs Bruce. Portia did wait too late but situation was completely different. Economy news was totally bad under the JLP, but most of it was all the money Bruce wasted with his antics and fact that the JLP under Bruce refused to carry out the Agreement between them and the IMF.
The JLP Government never looked like they were in charge....they always looked surrounded!

Actually the worst is over. The sticking point was the IMF agreement. If the PNP can negotiate an agreement that will not threaten to cut the Public Service or if they walk away from the IMF totally then they have can of just muddling through, just like they did for the last 18 years!

I've been following quietly and knew something was up when they said voter turnout was low but I figured that would favour the incumbent JLP. So much for the science of polling nobody seems to have got this thing right in terms of seat count victory if some of the preliminary results being banded about are correct. There is going to be a lot of figure pointing in the JLP if these results hold beginning with of course Bruce Golding then Andrew Holness and chief campaign strategist Karl Samuda. How could they have gotten this so wrong? Mutty Perkins made the point repeatedly on his talk show that calling the elections so soon was a major mistake on Holness part and that Holness should have used the remainder of his term to prove his mettle. I feel bad for the JLP and for Jamaica. Jamaica needs a healthy opposition - the JLP could implode after this.

But IMO the lions share of the blame should be placed at the door step of Eddie Seaga. He absolutely decimated the base of the party with his one don, my way or the highway tactic in the 90s and 2000s. Even after stepping down he was still lashing out at his own party. Remember even after 18 1/2 years in power and Trafigura scandal the JLP barely eked out a 4 seat win in 2007. Jamaica was PNP country then and this still appears to hold true now.

what influence, if any, do u think the dudus affair had on the fortunes of the jlp? from a distance, it would seem that golding was the one to doom the party's resurgence by his defence of the don. this seemed to me like reaching back to the old style garrison ways, and made the jlp no longer seem like a new and fresh alternative.

Tonight confirmed what i felt about the 2007 election. Pnp lost then and Jlp did not have the leadership to take it and run wid it.... jamaica facing a sad reality

Mr. Seaga remained quiet all through Mr. Golding's Term. He said nothing other than what he said at the time he was leaving. The problem was solely with the Golding four years. The Party had every opportunity to rebuild it was Mr. Golding that wreck the Party in the last four years. He went totally off script, totally off message and bungled the everything he has touch.

This was nothing to do with Dudus, it was everything about Golding!
For one thing it was not under the JLP that Dudus rose it was under the PNP. Mr. Golding did not know Dudus and was not even an Elected Official during the time of Dudus.
Golding met Dudus in 2005 as he said.
